IF you had £25k burning a hole on your pocket and you wanted the Jag....AND YES IT HAS TO BE THE F TYPE.......would you happily buy the V6 S or squeeze a bit more out of you big wallet and splash for the V8?

For me it would be the V8 BUT if you want a coupe 25k then the V6 will be just fine, you won't miss the V8 unless you test drive one wink

Funnily enough I was looking at these just the other day and - potentially unpopular opinion here - I think the V6 actually sounds better than the V8... I know, I know. But every video I watched, the V8 just had a nasty brittle/shrill edge to it with almost no bass (especially at higher revs). Perhaps that can be solved with a better exhaust but from stock I'd have the V6 for noise (and it probably handles better too with less weight up front).

The irony was that I'm looking for a V8 convertible for the summer to scratch an itch and never thought thought for a second I'd prefer the V6 for sound.

Having owned 2 v8’s I’d suggest it’s your audio, the v8 sounds epic and less shrill than the 6.

Note that the six on these is just the v8 block but with 2 less pistons fitted…..

I reckon the V6 with a manual gearbox might be a good investment as I do believe not many were made.
Not sure what’s rarer with the manual box, convertible or fixed head?
They all look great anyway.

Possibly more the recording than the playback system then - the hifi's around £7k's worth and doesn't sound st. From the YT videos I found the V6 just sounded richer and bassier overall. I was expecting the opposite and perhaps that's true 'in the metal'.

It was only recently that I learnt about this after watching a YouTube video, I assumed jaguar chopped off 2 cylinders and shortened the engine block etc. how wrong was I.

I really do fancy an F type at some point, if I couldn’t have the V8 i wouldn’t bother-I’d rather a manual mustang GT than an F type V6-

I have an XK 4.2, and I'll tell you now, once you've had a taste of the AJV8, in whatever CC, you'll kick yourself for not having bought one sooner.

It's smooth, tuneful and if you're not in a rush shockingly economical. It's also surprisingly reliable. I've only had niggling electrical issues (which disappeared once I fitted a new battery) since I bought it. The rest of my expenditure has been optional cosmetics, servicing, and preventative maintenance (gearbox fluid and filter is the one most egregiously overlooked as its not a mandatory service item). It's a wonderful way to get from A to B.

Thinking about an F Type 5.0 from time to time…love the idea of one….how big an issue is the timing chain and cost to fix if it starts to go?
