Hi all,

Partner is due to get a salary sacrifice car with work. We’ve probably narrowed it down to the Cupra Born, currently have a V3 on test.

The VZ basically works out about the same contribution. The only thing we’re not sure about is the comfort of the seats, as it’ll be used for long work trips a few times a month.

The prospect of the extra power is very tempting. Is it any harder to live with?

The VZ gets DCC as standard so even if the seats were a bit firmer, this will probably balance things out.

The battery is very slightly bigger on the VZ too and combined with the newer APP550 motor, the efficiency looks to be better. Plus the additional 100 or so horsepower, all for the same-ish price… get it ordered biggrin

Have you been able to find a VZ to at least have a look around even if a test drive hasn’t been possible?

This Car magazine review of the VZ was written by someone who’d run a standard Born long-termer, so might be useful if you’ve not read it.

FWIW, I've just come out of a Born V3 in to a Leon VZ3 (with what I believe are the same seats as in the Born VZ). They're certainly quite firm but very supportive and having done ~1,000 miles in my first week with the Leon I'm happy with them!

It’s named after an area of Barcelona, so no worse than Capri biggrin

Thanks all, finally got up to Cupra Bristol today and the seats seem fine, I think arguably more comfortable on long journeys than softer ones. Sennheiser stereo really good too. Sold I reckon!

Great! Out of interest, if you don’t mind sharing, what Sal sac terms was it? My wife’s Born which I SS for her is due up for replacement early next year, so will be starting to look soon. She’s quite happy to have the same again, but perhaps the VZ might appeal to her girl racer side biggrin

Ha! Apparently I got it wrong. It’s not a salary sacrifice, it’s a normal company car, but seems to be very competitive terms, only £40/month top up when anything electric by BMW/Audi was looking to be £100plus

thumbup Yes, the same is true on my company car scheme, hugely more expensive to trade up to an Audi Q4 than any of it's sister brand's options on the same platform - more than the difference in list price would suggest it should be.

Definitely, there is still something about ‘brand’ which demands a premium.

We had a test of an EQB which was nice, and would no doubt impress the neighbours more, but driving experience several orders of magnitude poorer than the Born. Basing electric versions on legacy chassis…es really shows. Still, if you had hordes of kids I suppose it would make sense. Not for long work trips with a tiny range!
