Best Convertible? 992 Turbo S Vs Bentley Vs DBS Vs M8
Discussion
Hi
I'm looking at buying a convertible to replace my Maserati Gran Cab. My daily drive is a Range Rover so this car is just going to be used in summer.
I want something that can shift and has comfort and ideally a decent exhaust note to put a smile on my face.
A sticking point is I need to be able to fit my golf clubs into the car.
The options im considering are 992 Turbo S, Bentley GTC, BMW M8 and Aston Martin DBS.
I was hoping to get some feedback from anyone who has owned any of these cars on which might be best given or whether there are any other options I should consider? Max budget 150k
Can a golf bag with clubs fit into the boot of the Bentley, M8 and the Aston with the roof down?
Are there any golf clubs at all that can fit into the frunk of the porsche or is it not even deep enough for a putter?
Failing that can a bag with clubs lay on the back seat of the porsche with the clubs in it or would they all need to be removed? I found a video showing a bag can go in but it looks like they removed a bunch of the longer clubs to fit it. I dont want to stand the clubs on the front seat as its a fair drive to my golf course.
I should probably just ditch the clubs and go straight to the 19th hole. Then I can get the car I want and save all the tantrums and club throwing in between.
Thanks

I’m a repeat convertible buyer, and an avid golfer. I’ve tried to have convertibles where the clubs are on the passenger seat, convincing myself that will be fine, but the reality is it’s annoying and an inconvenience, and detracts from the enjoyment of the car. The 911 is out for that reason, which is a shame because it’s a fabulous car.
I think you will find the M8 to be pretty bland and boring when you’re sitting inside, I don’t find it differentiates itself from even a two series that much.
Therefore, that leaves the Aston or the Bentley. The Bentley will be the better car to live with day-to-day, it feels like it has a bigger boot, it’s comfier to waft around in, however if you are more interested in some helmsmanship, you might want to look at the DBS.
Another commentator has suggested the Lexus, that is an absolutely wonderful car, as long as you get it with the 5L V8. Go take a look, make sure you look at a later car where the entertainment has been improved.
At 150k, although you’re coming from an Italian car, have you considered buying a front engine Ferrari? A variety are available at that budget, will offer the boot you need, come with the wonderful 10 year warranty, and a very special place to be. Some clever man maths would even be able to suggest it might be the cheapest thing as a total ownership proposition, considering most of the depreciation will be done.

This replaced my Grancabrio.
It’s ace. Proper noise, built not like a Maserati and nobody else (in the golf club carpark) has one.
No idea on golf clubs but Americans like the LC so they might fit. The clubs as well as the Americans.

I had a 458 Italia previously and I could actually fit most of the clubs in the front trunk on that. It was a superb car and a child hood dream to get one but the novelty wore off and too many cars on the road and cameras spoil it nowadays. Im looking for something more comfortable now with Apple car play and a good sound system etc. I don’t really like the look of the portofino and the latest Ferraris don’t really do it for me like the 458 did.I think you will find the M8 to be pretty bland and boring when you’re sitting inside, I don’t find it differentiates itself from even a two series that much.

I had the last model GTC when they first came out - I loved it. The new shape is sublime and it would be my choice.
I have a 911 and can't imagine how you'd get clubs in without scraping leather and being a massive nuisance.
You should try the Bentley.
The DBS is a bit more of a drivers car (I used to have a Vanquish) but lacks, in my experience, the unrelenting luxury of the Bentley. But they're very different cars - it'll come down to which one blows up your proverbial skirt!

Thanks for the suggestion. How does this compare to the Maserati in terms of trunk space and shape? I can fit my golf bag in the Maserati fine so if this is similar it should be ok. I hadn’t considered of of these but is a great shout and I used to have a Lexus IS which was certainly a lot more reliable that the Maserati!
ETA looks like it does if you take the driver out

You'd have to try but the Corvette can take a set (apparently) of clubs, the coupe is a targa & there's convertible too:

I reckon the LC might be a little bigger but that’s not saying much - they’re both rubbish. The coupe V8 has a bigger boot compared to the convertible and hybrid as they lose a chunk at the front of the boot for the hood or battery. Give me a size and I’ll have a measure

I did post the link above to say clubs minus a driver would fit but having looked at my boot again I’m not convinced. Golf sticks are quite long, and the boot lid is quite narrow. It’d work for tennis bats?

I have a 992 turbo s cab - avid golfer, and travel with my clubs.. they will fit in the back seat, you have to take the driver and woods out of the carry bag, and position them separately, but they fit in the back too, and are secure under the wind deflector. With a cab it’s pretty easy to get the bag in and out, but a faff nonetheless, and I usually put the bag in the passenger seat for short journeys, but you’ll need a towel to protect the seat.
Electric trolley fits in the trunk - either a gokart (wheels need to come off), or a Stewart follow (needs tilting to fit).
Strangely my wife’s boxster was better in this regard - the clubs fit fine in the boot, and the trolley easier in the slightly larger trunk, but I'm a bit too tall to fit into a boxster, so I was the problem!
