When I have an average age, average car I find it a bit dull so look for something a bit more modern and to me showy.
When I've got that, I worry about having that much money tied up in something that doesn't go far and that can't be fixed cheaply if it breaks.
So that gets sold and I go older than average so no moneys tied up, then get concerned when it's not reliable and has to have money spent on it, then I want something average.....
Am I stupid or just bored?

Well if you can afford them and you've got space for parking etc I don't think you have a problem.
Lots of people spend hundreds/thousands on hobbies so, assuming they bring some enjoyment, I'd keep them
I always seem to have the thing I don't want when I have it though.Lots of people spend hundreds/thousands on hobbies so, assuming they bring some enjoyment, I'd keep them

I'd say neither stupid nor bored...
I'm the same, I constantly battle in my head and in practice about what the best compromise is - I've run sheddy stuff and enjoyed the liberation they bring, zero worries and if it breaks big time then scrap it and get another. But then there's times I think "Come on mate, you can do a bit better" and then go off down the rabbit hole of something nicer / dearer / faster / whatever and either worry about damage or it biting me hard... or I just get fed up and change to something else. I also sit and debate something new, under warranty for XXX amount a month then flip back to sheds again.
Life changes, nobody says you have to buy X, Y or Z and stick with it... same as many things in life, you just go with what suits at the time and if it works for a bit, great and when it starts to no longer work for whatever reason, change it. I've done it with houses and I've done it with jobs, gone from something that was perceived as good (by some!) to something that was perceived as my being in a bad place (by some!) and then back to something else... cars are no different in my head. I'd happily drive something "nice" and in the next breath, be running something borderline scrap.
Just be happy in the knowledge that if you can pick and choose, chop and change... then that's not a bad place to be.

I think if you want a nice/interesting car, you have to be prepared to pay either depreciation, rental cost or maintenance cost. If unlucky, you may even end up with two of those!
Figure out what an acceptable amount to spend on cars is for you and then give yourself the freedom to spend that without judging yourself harshly.
It may also be worth figuring out what it is you actually want from a car, not what everyone else wants (define flash?) and certainly do not try to compare your car to other people's. An example for me was that I used to be convinced I wanted only a manual gearbox, but I didn't really, I just wanted a fun car where the gearbox didn't detract. The most HP is not as important to me as I thought, but a supportive seat is more than I thought.
But be open to the possibility that what you really want is someone to share the passion with.

Flash to me is a 5 year old supermini/Astra size car
Money wise I certainly go no where over 7-8k so it's not silly money.
I get tempted by old luxury ( range rover etc) but luckily bottle it before going there.
Insurance is also a hassle which does rain me in a bit cause we'll there just arses aren't they.
Ok, off to the classifieds then..
