Assuming 130-140k budget and a main dealer only / manufacturer warranty stipulation which of these would you go for?

High days and European touring holidays, seeking something quick but comfortable and a bit more supercar than a 911.

Which of those likely to do best residually over 3-5-10 years?

Getting some good offers on 296 - but they are another 60k on top……

That’s a difficult one. I think the MC20 is the only car there which would be properly special. Every car will be amazing to drive, but nothing looks like the MC20 on that list if that’s important to you.

It is to me - I like the car to look as special as it drives.

Don’t get me wrong, the others are beautiful, but that MC20 is something else.

Main thing is to go drive them smile

You won't get much luggage in the MC20 or the Artura for your touring holidays.

You appear to have missed the Audi R8 V10 from your list ... hehe

We discounted the hurracan for this reason already…..

We’ve managed 2 weeks with an f type cab @ 200L

Not an Audi fan, it’s all the white SUV’s blocking up the motorway with the inside lanes clear….

My understanding with the Artura is the 160l boot is all in the frunk, but that's where you have to keep the charging cable too.

Ignoring that fact that £140k would enable me to scatch my lifelong Testarossa itch, based on the OP's criteria I'd buy a 458. Looks and sounds nicer than a 488 and still modern enough that you'll find one at a main dealer with all the financial trimmings.

Assuming it's a coupe you can stow some more bags behind the seats in an Artura in addition to the frunk, same as other hardtop Macs.

Overall 140k seems a harder decision than 100k, lots of appealing options here. The older cars will likely depreciate less but may cost more to run.

MC20 for me, lots of choice and as new, although the cabins are a bit dull.

Heart would say best 458 I could get, but I'd have to drive the 720S to see what it's like first.
I'm not a McLaren fan but they do seem to be reviewed well.

If you’re doing European touring, then of those the DBS fits the brief. It’s not going to compete with the others hammering up the Stelvio, but you’ve got a few thousand miles of autoroute/strada/bahn and need luggage in any European tour, so get something that fits that brief.

Snobby comment incoming: I’m not a huge fan of the 720S demographic. It tends to attract the 1000 bhp, spitting exhaust flames type of indivuduals. Young’uns. You know, the chaps that love M4’s, Nissan GTR, C63’s.

Stand out from the crowd wherever you go and get the MC20, NSX….

I think about this conundrum a lot.

On your poll I voted for the 488, they seem to be a bargain right now for what you get and is regarded as the superior car to the 458, despite people lauding over the N/A engine.

For me it's about storage, comfort on the way there and an enjoyable drive when you get on to the twisty roads.

Also for that budget I would like to have some kind of supercar presence, which your current list does.

I've never driven a 720S, only a 570S, but I often wonder if there is a difference between what reviewers say and what real-world buyers say in terms of ownership enjoyment. Yes, its blisteringly fast and amazing steering feel but are you actually going to enjoy being catapulted from hairpin to hairpin on the Stelvio pass and you missus' lungs feel like they're getting pressed against the back of the seat.

On the plus-side of the 720S, no one seems to mention that the coupe has some storage space behind the seats.

The MC20 has almost no storage space and is still heavily depreciating it seems.

I would also consider a VH platform Aston Martin, something like a Vanquish.

A Mclaren GT is worth a look.

A Ferrari F12, FF, Roma or GTC4Lusso?

If I was going to use the car more than 3-times per week I'd definitely go for a DBS Superleggera.

I find it interesting that Harry Metcalfe had your say dilemma and went for a Mclaren 650S.

You're trying to apply logic to what is an illogical decision. Which one on your list do you adore?

For me it would be the 458 and I'd eat the depreciation and put up with limited luggage space.

I reckon the 458 has done it's depreciation now.

It's been out long enough to take the hit as new models come out and now Ferrari aren't making cars that are as good as that anymore, they're just different.

For example the 360 Modena to F430 was a big jump.

DB7 to DB9 was a big jump.

Gallardo to Huracan was a big jump.

But 488 to F8 Tributo was basically the same car.

DB11 to DB12 is a facelift.

So imo you're not going to see a 458 at £50k like you do a 360 Modena as it hasn't had to endure better cars being released.

Hard to argue with that.

There's also the tremendous Top Gear review with a banger from The Chemical Brothers:

Funnily enough I saw an MC20 today, first one ‘in the wild’.

Looked absolutely stunning, drew a crowd of onlookers!

It had a Swiss autoroute carnet and a French toll transponder so evidently used for touring.

Would defo be my choice, though I’ve been in a friends DBS a couple of times and that too is drop dead gorgeous and very comfortable as well as mind bendingly quick.
