Just wondering has anyone ever sold a classic car to “we buy any car” ? Classics don’t really have a book value as such like modern cars so just wondering how they would base their offer ?

I’m selling 2 classic American cars and I’m fed up with the amount of time wasters and scammers I keep getting message me so just want a quick sale now but not giving them away for a stupid price

Thanks

I think you would get bid well under your expcations, but you should put the details in and let us know.

I was selling a 2006 Boxster earlier this year and the WBAC price was around £3,000 under the price it sold for. You can't blame them - they just want the vanilla stuff that is going to be easy to sell.

You'd be better to sell via (suitable) auction i would have thought.

Classic car auction could be good. Manor Park have free entry (subject to an agreed reserve). They take 6%, punters try to knock that off at least on a classified. SWVA on the South Coast sometimes have free entry too.

The other ones like ACA, Iconic, H+H, Brightwells have an entry fee whether it sells or not. What they charge is very variable frown

I'd be very surprised if WBAC (or similar) had a VRN lookup facility that would pull the data up for a classic / American car and their manual entry forms may not list your make or model either. I guess the obvious answer would be to try it?

But whilst they'll buy anything, highly likely that if their system picks up the VRN / manually added details, it'll default into the folder marked "£200" as they probably don't want to get involved with stuff of that nature... but they'll have a go if you're happy to take their low offer. Which, you won't.

It's a bit like when somebody comes snorting that WBAC only values their 1987 Sierra Cosworth at £760. It's simply not something they'll be competitive bidding on, so it just fires out a base figure.

Plenty specialist auction houses or list them on the likes of Car & Classic? Or some bespoke owners groups? Social media generally generates a high percentage of dreamers.

PH Auctions or Collectingcars would be my votes, depending on what value they have?

What are they / links to Ebay listings?

Sadly at this time of year and in the current climate for these sort of cars you're probably going to struggle to get a decent price.

Could you hang onto them and try again in the spring?

I seem to remember the WBAC algorithm throwing out £150 for my TVR Cerbera 4.5 in 2019, which I sold for almost £20k.

There was also, anecdotally, somebody who snapped their hand off at an offer for their Cerbera, that did the rounds of the auctions at lower and lower prices. Not sure what happened in the end. smile
