Hi,

Yes indeed. The M4 will be sold come March 2025 once we start hitting spring. The title seems odd right?

The budget is around £10K-45K. And I'm not after a speed demon traffic light monster. Something that brings me back to enjoying driving. I found my M4 superb at times but fairly jarring as a daily.

I'm after a car that's fun, mildly tuneable, exciting and one that a petrolhead would both admire and want. We have an X5 M50d for family duties so thats been great and the wife runs that thing pretty much.

My mileage is like 1000-2500 miles max a year. And the car should be relatively depereciation/residual proof. Obviously I'm a realistic person but I expect to be keeping the car for 3 years potentially.

My heart is saying the Alfa Guilia QV, my brain is saying the Macan GTS or RS6 as I still need to ferry my kids around for daddy duties and footy and MMA tournaments. Parking is a nightmare at times for JPL/academy matches. Also it has to be something my wife wants to drive. She took the M4 out and was terrified from the get go. Said there is no 'P' button for parking and it's to loud and angry lol.

Or I could get a 911. Gah... First World problems eh.

And cos of the mileage I do I was thinking maybe a VW Up! GTI. I loved my old Panda 100HP apart from its high oil consumption however. As you can see it's a fairly open playing field in terms of what I could buy apart from needing 4 seats potentially.

I would have gone for the R8 and maybe upped my budget. But daily driving one of those with kids and the stholes i need to park with road crater surfaces would be a ballache.

Fair few keep saying a Golf R. But I'll be frank..they don't float my boat for some reason. Maybe I need to drive one.

Something like a Honda Civic FD2 Type R could be an option. Only issue I can see against your requirements would be ride comfort as the suspension is meant to be hard - although better than the FN2 hatchback version.

A slight outlier choice but thought I’d chuck it in there.

Are you talking about a Giulia or Stelvio QV?

Depreciation proof and Alfa Romeo are not often found in the same sentence.

For me it would be the Giulia QV OR depending on how big the kids are I'd suggest the Evora.

At the risk of going off-topic, I’m strongly considering an F83 M4 as my next daily, so would be interested to hear more about its suitability therefor. The firmness of the ride is my current main concern…

I have had many M cars. This is certainly not the best or my favourite by some margin. I would say my E46 M3 was more involving, emotional, cathartic and better built.

The car has been reliable. It's done about 20k so not much. But the fukin rattles man, final straw was one within the steering column. The car is mint, been looked after meticulously, the kids have enjoyed it. UK weather is st so the convertible shtick is no longer my thing.

It gets a lot of comments still, especially on the way it sounds and the paint in particular is mineral white and beautiful. More so since it's been cermaic coated. I enjoy using the paddles on the DCT box. But yes the ride can be very firm. The car had been lowered but I brought it back to stock within a few weeks. Too old for that st also. And UK roads are unforgiving. I'm 44 years old by the way lol.

I don't want to put you off. These are fantastic cars and it's been a privelage to own and drive one. But all this modern stuff is a distraction more than anything. You know I have had the HUD on every single time and I never noticed it was there or required. Pointless.

The ICON adaptive headlights and the auto dip feature is bloody fantastic though. Seriously impressed

I usually love to help in this situation, but I reckon that this will take some replacing to be honest.

Hiya, in the sense of whether to sell the M4? Yes I understand that. My wife, kids and friends think I am having a midlife crisis. The idea of a VW Up! GTI didn't go down well.

Yes and for me they are great all round cars. Plus I've always liked the Convertible model after I had a test drive in one back in 2016.

I do like the idea of the Alfa or the RS6 though. thumbup

Don't bother with the Up! Gti, when your kids get older the Up! will be the default choice (60bhp though). There's alot of upside to an Up! even in 60bhp guise......easy to park, manual gearbox, nippy up to 30mph and you have to learn not to brake too much on the bends to keep the speed going smile

Had a Stelvio QV….excellent / fun car…..watch out, they are VERY easy to steal.

Take a look at an E63S (2017 onwards), seriously good cars….just got one and a keeper for a while…..real character.

I’m going to say a Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio

Guy on here has a Jaguar F-Pace SVR and loves it. At your mileage would be spot on with a V8.

All great responses and thank you. Have been heavily researching Porsche 911's today.

A few good friends have them and having been in conversations with them. It's. Very cult like...
Which is surprising seeing as one of my good ex army mates both turbos just popped on his 2016 911. And now he is looking at a 9k bill at Lichfield for hybrid turbos.

Did he blink an eye? Nope... He is keeping the car and can't wait for the new turbos and around 600bhp. I'm booking a test drive on a 997 Turbo for the weekend. Is ground clearance really an issue? Maybe I just need to man up.

I’d suggest looking at a B9/9.5 Audi RS4 rather than an C7 RS6 (don’t think a C8 is in budget yet) if you don’t need the extra space of the 6 over the 4.

I’ve had my B9 RS4 for just over a year now and I absolutely love it.. it’s the perfect all rounder for me.

Having just got a F Pace SVR I would say at least go and test one. If you find the M4 a bit much sometimes then the F Pace rides far better than it ought to, far better than internet bores say all SUVs ride like and much better than other performance oriented cars I’ve had. You do get a little pitch and roll in comfort but it’s all the better for it. It actually breathes with the road rather than baseball batter it in to submission. Fuel consumption is, well, better than you’d expect but I’ve had mine five weeks and already spent £615 in fuel. If your doing minimal miles then it shouldn’t be an issue.

If I were you though, given that you already have a rapid SUV I’d go daft and get something special maybe an older Bentley Continental or Aston Rapide. Both are probably financial liabilities but if you’re only doing small mileage then bring on the man maths.

What are the chances I am watching Jay right now reviewing the Rapide lol. I agree with your advice also.
