Basically, I refuse to lease or finance a car & have a strange fetish for owning weird cars.

I have a budget of sub 3k, need 5 seats, be safe & want some sort of performance for overtaking, millage doesn't scare me & budget for repairs so doesn't have to be ultra reliable.

I have a 2-mile round trip per day so doesn't have to be amazing MPG but I like heated seats etc, I have currently compiled a list of the following......E280cdi or R280cdi or possibly even a S320cdi, L322 V8 RR, Lexus LS460, BMW 7 series diesel/petrol, possibly even a Renault Vel Satis (I'm a sick man).

I appreciate they will all be higher millage, needing some love etc. at that price, just want advice on if people have owned any and possibly any other options I have forgotten about.

Cheers

BMW 7 series E65

I had a lci 730d sport and it was a brilliant car, great to drive and I loved the interior.

The repair bills were expensive though.

Slightly over budget and possibly too sensible?

A 2.2d for a 2 mile commute. I can smell the DPF from here. Putting up with the bus would genuinely be less traumatic.

I'd be all over that S class just for the challenge of keeping it running on a shoestring (once I'd painted the wheels silver!) laugh

Volvo V70 T5?

Sub 3k, 5 seats, safe, has performance for overtaking, and has superb comfy heated seats.

I'm slightly biased as this one's mine (though I am supposed to be selling it).

Thanks for replies, I have to be able to drive due to weird hours and working on a port, so biking isn't very safe with murderers and rapists driving round (lorry drivers).

I have whittled it down to the following:

Gs300 - safe, quite boring but should be comfy and semi reliable.

Jag XF - forgot these can be had for cheap now and am seriously tempted

Merc E Class - would love a 5 litre s class but have to be somewhat sensible

Range Rover V8 L322 - Still top of my list but borkage levels increase, anyone running a L322 without eating savings up 😂.

Any threads on any of the above would be appreciated.
