Just wondering , I’m selling a car on eBay , a classified advert with best offer

I’ve had an offer that I might accept but the buyer lives up in Scotland so he just wants to send a trailer for it , my question is if it gets up there and he doesn’t like something on it will eBay let him return the car if he wants to ? As I know they usually cover the buyer on regular sales but I wasn’t sure about car sales

I’ve been honest in the advert description about the condition but it’s an old car so sold as seen, I’ve offered him the chance to come and look at it but he’s happy to send a trailer for it and is happy with the description

Don’t worry I will get all payment clear before it’s collected

Many thanks

I sold a Fiat Tempra on eBay in 2018 to a chap who sent a trailer, it was going over 400 miles up to Scotland. It wasn't big money (£1250) but I'd made a comprehensive description with plenty of photos. It does happen. As long as all descriptions are accurate, I can't see how he can just change his mind, as long as you're a private seller, not a trader? Distance selling regulations may apply then.

I was paid prior to collection, and it all went fine. The collection couple were couriers and had been paid to make the delivery, they made only a swift inspection of the car. smile

Thanks but my main point was does he have any comeback with eBay if I accept the offer through eBay and then when he gets the car he decides he doesn’t like something about it ? Because they usually side with buyers on regular sales

Basically my main concern is him wanting to return the car at my expense

Yes I’m a private seller

Thanks

As long as you get paid cash on collection or bank transfer there’s not much they can do. If you accept any eBay payment you are putting yourself at risk.

Can eBay take back payment if you take the money directly but have your bank account details registered with eBay?

No, eBay buyer protection doesn't extend to motors category or classified ads.

Just treat it as any normal private sale, eBay are just the advertising platform.
