Advice please!

I’m looking to buy a car, however I’m struggling to figure out what car to meet my needs and wants. I would like something fun, a bit cool, fast, suitable for general school drop offs (one child) but also road trips across the Highlands and the Alps, maybe with two bikes on the back. My dilemma is…will one car meet all these needs? Recently hired an old MX-5 on a road trip and was a lot of fun, but not suitable for general day to day.

Thoughts/recommendations please?

What's your budget?

1 car can never do everything, usually 2 is the best option.

Well we are guessing because you haven't said what your budget is.

This or the Cupra 300 estate were the first things to come to mind.

Or a Golf GTI PP if you don't need the additional boot space of the wagon.

The issue with the Seat is the interior, good car otherwise.

M340i touring would tick alot of those boxes.
And space to chuck the bikes in the back with the wheels off.

Thank you for the suggestions. I’m a female driver, so don’t fancy an estate plus don’t need anything that big. To give you an idea of what I like, ideal car garage would be a LR Defender (original), Porsche 911 and pottering at the weekend in an AH Frogeye Sprite or even a Caterham! But until I win the lottery…

I was considering the new Mini Cooper (poss convertible) as it ticks the fun, quick, bikes on the tow bar, yet I keep seeing the more mature lady driving them and can’t figure out whether its a good driving car.

I loved the MX-5 experience in the Highlands and recently test drove a Caterham Seven.

Budget: main car I’m thinking of doing a lease as I like the peace of mind it’s not going to break down on me/warranties etc so can spend up to £350 PM. So I guess that will get me a car around £30k roughly. So do I get one car that ticks most boxes for now? Save for something fun in the future, or get a used car as main car and something fun on the side?

See post below for context…£30k on a lease or probably £12-16k if bought used.

Ha very true! £350 PM if new lease which I think could get me a £30k car roughly or £12-16k if buying used. But when I compare what I’d pay over 3 years on a lease deal to buying used upfront, the lease seems more cost effective.

Thank you. I’ve had a Golf before, and it was great and would tick the boxes.

Golf Gti 7.5 would suit, no need to spend £30k really.
