Ok, I have a mk3 Ovtavia vRS petrol, manual and I'm a bit bored of it.

I love having a big estate, decent performance and handling and pretty low running costs.

I'm willing to drive something that costs a bit more to run but definitely need the space and grunt.

Been thinking of BMW 5 series or some sort of Mercedes E class but nothing is grabbing me just yet.

Golf r estate, Leon cupra r estate, they actually have decent boots!

Jag xf 3.0d estates are really nice also.

A6 avant with the 3.0v6 diesel is nice, boring but refined, roomy and nice place to spend time.

BMW 530d/535d/540i Touring.

Easily fast enough to not see you bored and lots of load space. The rear glass opening separate to the tailgate is very useful for when you need to add or remove small items or if you're carrying dogs.

I had a 2019 530d on loan when my 520d was in for some work and it felt as fast as our 435d.

The E53 always struck me as a nice car with decent poke but not as brash as the 63.

F11 535i Tourings are starting to become popular with JDM importers at the moment.

My E500 was sufficient almost all of the time and flew entirely under the radar.

I have thought about it, but I'd need an updated clutch too so suddenly an extra 80ish bhp costs about £1500.

Where possible 2 cars will always beat 1 for fun, 1 spacious car and 1 fun car. Trying to do it all in 1 car never works imo.

nono R Tech is where you go.

I guess it comes to budget, C43, Focus ST, 540i, M340 but it will depend on ££

As others have said its hard to say without knowing your budget. You mention the 5 series and E class but these are much bigger cars than your Octavia. I made the move from an Octavia to a V90 estate but wanted the extra space with two kids and sacrificed decent performance for comfort and practically. Unless you really need more space it sounds like something no bigger than what you have but with more performance might be the way to go.

Are you me? I’m less bored with my VRS (it’s pretty good at everything) and getting tempted by running something a bit daft for a year or two though.

C63/E63 to scratch the V8 itch
I find the BMW/Audi options a bit uninspiring even though they’re probably decent

Is there much out there beyond those options these days? Feels like SUVs have really ruined the sector.

Alpina B5 GT would be a great shout. There’s a couple for sale right now.
Cheap and “economical “.

OP you're either looking at something similar to your Octavia that you may well have ruled out when you bought the Skoda (Focus ST, arguably nicer inside but flimsier, Golf R, depends on where you live, Cupra, like the golf but fewer features, S4- insurance? 335i, long in the tooth) or something bigger which, unless you want an S6 with miles or of an E63, will be dull.

I'd E63
