Need someone else’s thoughts on a Tiguan. Been looking at one with this description.

I emailed the dealer to get the service history and was told that it has had the mechatronic gearbox control unit replaced which is a common fault in them.

The price is just below £18,000. VW used to say to change timing belt and water pump after 5 years but are now saying 120k miles I think. This car hasn’t had a change yet. I just think that buying a car with that sort of miles wouldn’t be recommended without the change as it wouldn’t put my mind at ease?

I had a 2010 A6 Avant 2.0 TDI (170) with 109k miles, when I sold it earlier this year it had already had 2 cambelts fitted and was going to be due a 3rd replacement in 2025.

I wouldn't be looking for one to last that long unless VAG were prepared to stand behind it if anything went wrong, which knowing VAG would be highly unlikely...
Get the dealer to include it as part of the deal
