Hi everyone.

Looking to get a car though SS pretty soon hopefully but needed something pretty quick i.e. end of the year at the latest.
There's a couple of cars that fall within my £500pm budget:

The Omada 5 on a 2 year term works out about £460pm inc insurance, maintenance, breakdown.
Has anyone got any experience with the Omada 5 electric? I know its fairly new in the UK

There's also the MG4 long range £470pm

Tesla model Y works out to be £537pm for 2 years. Didn't really want to go over £500 pm. Is it worth just spending a little bit extra and getting the Tesla with the options I have?

Much appreciated

You can get a Model Y on a 3+35 personal contract hire deal for £442 a month direct from Tesla.

Unless your insurance costs are huge, that’ll be cheaper than salary sacrifice. On SS have you factored in the increases in BIK each year.

The biggest winners from SS are the leasing companies who are making a fortune out of it.

It's over £70pm more than the Tesla. Most of the use would be school runs and shopping so wasn't sure whether there's any point of paying that extra £70

So for 3 years its about £510pm. Insurance is about another £100 per month so for the PCH it would work out more expensive.

The other reason why I was going for SS was about £2-2.5k of the 40% tax just goes to the taxman but AFAIK rather than going there it can be used here

I was pretty much just looking for something cheapish that can occasionally accommodate 3 kids and 2 adults.
I've just seen a price for BYD Dolphin at £380, which might do the trick for us.

Have you ever considered not buying a stty Chinese car that's built by a genocidal regime using forced labour?

I'm sure there are many parts in your computer/laptop/router/broadband infrastructure/TV/house/car etc etc that have Chinese components in them.

Yes, but due to the insidious ubiquity of the Chinese supply chain, that's pretty much unavoidable, unlike buying an entire fecking car.

That explains why when I ordered an Uber on Sunday the car was a brand new Model Y. Having never been in a Tesla before I spent most of the journey geeking out over the fact the car recognised all the cars, trucks and buses on the display and even showed when they were braking.

I would get one of these over the Omada any day.

Id be waiting till after the budget before signing up for any SS leasing.

Thieves will surely close a tax avoidance loophole that enables the best paid to drive around in subsidised 150k Porsche EV's.

Trouble is, if they stop these sort of people leasing/buying EVs then their net zero plan will go out the window as very few people buy EVs privately.

For me if a £5k lease per year now works out to be £3k with the £2k tax going towards the lease then its a win for me

Problem is that these are all more like a £5k lease, being £6.5k on the scheme but £3.5k after the salary sacrifice tax subsidy.

If the tax subsidy gets modified in the budget then you may find you are paying more than you'd otherwise be able to get it on standard lease terms.

Seemingly these schemes are very profitable for the scheme providers, less so for the public purse, hence the likelyhood of amendment in the budget.

Interesting thoughts re the budget, I had been thinking about using my work salary sacrifice scheme over recent weeks. Will hold off and see what happens.

True say. I'll wait until next week and see what comes out of it.

An Uber may work out cheaper? How about walking? In anycase if its got to be car I am sure some street cred matters? To each their own. Tesla's supercharger network is the real USP if the car ever ventured beyond school and shopping duty

ND is like a stuck record when it comes to Chinese cars, quite obsessed. I think a Chinese car touched him inappropriately.
