Car purchase help!!

I am looking for advice regarding buying a used car for around 12k.

My daily commute to work in total is around 1.5 hours partly dual carriageways and normal roads so not sure if a diesel would be okay or would it be better to go for petrol?

I would really like a Bmw 3 series and in diesel seem to have more for sale.

Other choice would be a Mercedes A class.

Examples:

Bmw 2.0 320d M Sport Saloon - 46k miles - 09/2016 - 2 Owners- £13k
Mercedes 1.6 A180 Sport - 34k miles - 03/2016 - 3 Owners - £12.5k

Comfort is the key & for that reason I'd rule out the A Class.
