We're considering a new car, and having seen a few PH ads for the Omoda thought I'd have a look on here to see what people were saying, but can't find a thread on them. The fact that they are a Chinese make doesn't in itself bother me, they certainly seem to be well specified. Consumption is a bit on the high side but we barely cover 3K a year so not too worried about that.

Any thoughts?

I’d make sure you don’t own it, as with little and only a very recent presence in the UK you are absolutely beholden to the importer for spares, repairs and the future value.

I passed a massive place selling them the other week, I think it was formerly a Ford or Vauxhall dealer.

Personally i'd worry it about it losing money much quicker than something from a more traditional manufacturer.

And also there could be issues with parts going forward due to being so new. May not be an issue for basic servicing but if it needs say a new starter motor or other random part there could be long delays shipping the parts from China.

I'd rather go for a year old Dacia Duster.

Thanks for the input. We went and had a look, and the first thing that put me off was the exposed thread at the side of the seat which works the electric seat adjustment. Second was the fact that I couldn't get in it without a struggle (I'm tall, and most of the above average height comes from my legs).

There was a NIssan dealer on the same trading estate (presumably owned by the same group), and their Qashqai looks promising and was easier to get into, plus fitted my wife well too.

This, plus insurance may be more expensive as I suspect it is virtually impossible to get parts.

I also wonder about the underbody protection of these cars as I have seen MGs with rust around the seams at a year or two old.

If the manufacturer pulls out of the UK then these cars will be largely worthless.

As above if you like them then make sure you finance/lease it as they're too new to have any opinion about them.

Fifth gear did a review on one of their models just a few weeks ago so may be available on one of the streaming channels.

Their view was its alright for the money but nothing special
