Hi all,

I am after a new (2nd hand biggrin) car (SUV).

I am a bigger chap (in waist size, not height) so want something with a bit of room in the cabin, something that sounds nice and is fun to drive. Fuel economy isn't a consideration.

I have a budget of about 25k for it.

I am torn between both of these models at the moment (a Jaguar F-pace 3.0 V6 S and Audi RS Q3 2.5 TFSI S) what would you go for and why? Or would you choose a different model entirely?

The Q3 is tiny compared to almost anything, especially the Jag.

The Q3 is infinitely more fun than the 3.0 Jag.

The Q3 isn't actually all.tjwt much fun though

Buy the 5.0 Jag.

The 5.0 is sadly is outside my budget due to house plans. If I could get one for sub £25k I'd certainly have a look, but I doubt it.

Well I liked my RSQ3, but it doesn't have much cabin room, unless you get a sunroof they're dark (esp in the back) and that eats headroom, which may or may not bother you, and the boot is tiny. And it had one pipe (was 2016, no idea if the later ones have two now). Made a nice noise and went well though.

The natural competitor for the Jag is the SQ5, no idea how the stats compare, I saw the "R" in the showroom and after a blast I just bought the 3.

Audi SQ5 3.0 TFSI V6 SUV could also be an option. I think I just need to book a few test drives.

The F Pace would be my pick out of those two.

I'd sit in both and see what your first impressions are, neither car is particularly spacious for the larger gent I'd suggest.

I'm 6,2" and 390kg, roughly.

My company car is a 2021 F-Pace 3.0S diesel with 300PS.

It's plenty big enough for me, and the boot space is massive.

I love the thing and when you put it in sport and dynamic mode it shifts along nicely and dare I say it, handles pretty well too.

My nearly son in law has an SQ5, I could probably nearly get it in my boot. Nice noise though, if you pretend it's real. laugh

Nice driveway!

Also interested in people's views of the F-Pace... do they not suffer from the same (perceived?) problems as the LR part of JLR???

Thanks, mine is the 3 litre diesel and in 30,000kms I haven't had a single problem.

I believe the smaller (Ignium?) engines were the ones with issues, not 100% sure though.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going with the jag. I test drove one yesterday and it was a lovely drive although question marks over a few things. Continuing to look around.

Does the 3 litre petrol have a belt or chain by the way?

Worth considering the Range Rover Velar if you like the Jaguar - same platform

All Jaguar's own engines have chains.

The 3.0 litre V6 petrol is chain, the V6 diesel is belt

I was also torn between the Jaguar and the Audi SQ5, ended up purchasing an F-Pace about six weeks ago. The Audi interior did not feel as special and overall the car did not feel as spacious as the F-Pace.

Ensure you look up the options you want to hunt for one with those.
You are unlikely to find one with ALL the options so go for the one that fits the bill best for you and your needs.

The Meridan 14 speaker 'surround' 825W system is quite rare, most come with the 10 speaker 380W Meridian.
Pan roof is your preference, I wanted one
The older headunits are a smaller screen with buttons each side, the better ones are 10.2" which are full touch screen
The Jaguar electric auto side steps were a very rare option, I've only ever seen this on two models for sale
The full LED headlights are great, most have the Xenons but I've seen more with the lighting upgrades recently.
The interior ambient lighting is standard (just lights up blue I believe) but the adjustable colours/brightness was an option - you can adjust it if you swipe right on the home screen to page 2 of the setting (you will also find the Dynamic mode settings on the same page)
All the S range come with heated front seats, the rear heated was optional
Electric reclining rear seats is a rare option - There is a gap between the top of the seats and the parcel shelf for them to recline into if you have them, if not its just a gap!)
Strangely the heated steering wheel was an option, not all have them but its fairly common
The 'adaptive' damping is obvious as you will see a wire connected to the top centre of the front dampers when you open the bonnet
Digital dash was an option but well recommended, you can set it up to display multiple screens to your suiting
In the settings you can disable the manual paddles in D mode, mine was set only to work in S mode when I purchased it (now changes to both)
S (Sport) mode just uses more of the rev range before changing gears, when switch to Dynamic the digital dash should change to red and also set the adjustable ambient lighting (if you have it) to red also.
The adaptive cruise control is easy to spot with a rectangular sensor mounted around the Jaguar badge on the grill, you will also see it on the steering wheel buttons
I love the 360degree cameras, helped me out of a few tight spots!
Get registered on the Jaguar site and then install Jaguar remote to your phone. Follow the step of inputting your VIN and then 'pairing' with the car to allow remote starting, remote lock/unlock, journey summaries, fuel level/mileage etc. It's free for 30 days then £60 for a 2 year subscription (I use it pretty much every day to remote start from inside the house to warm up a little)
I have only ever seen one Caesium blue petrol S for sale, and I bought it so dont hold out for another blue one unless you want a long wait. The darker blue ones are more common.

My spec is as follows:

2017 Jaguar Caesium in metallic blue
22" Alloys
Bodywork Black pack
Meridian surround sound system 825W
Jaguar electric auto side steps
Sliding panoramic roof
10.2" screen - Touch Pro
Full digital dash
Adaptive surface response
Adaptive headlights (J-Blade DRLs)
Adjustable Ambient interior lighting
Surround Camera System (requires Auto-dimming, heated, power fold door mirrors)
360° Parking Aid
Lane Keep Assist and Driver Condition Monitor
Adaptive Dynamics Pack - Consists of Adaptive Dynamics and Adaptive Surface Response
Door Mirrors - Electric Adjustment Heated Power-Folding - Auto-Dimming with Memory Function
Blind Spot Monitor and Reverse Traffic Detection
Factory installed privacy glass for all rear windows
Electronically adjustable steering wheel reach and rake
