Dear PH

As the family starts to grow, the two boys can't really fit in the back of a 2+2. I did not like the Panamera when it came out, but it seems an interesting compromise for this time in our lives.

I would be very grateful for any advice to help me decide if this is the right car to buy?

I tend to do about 16 miles a day in terms of commute (in London traffic). Would this genuinely do that on electric?

I wouldn't consider a non-hybrid - they're far too thirsty.

I can't afford to buy from Porsche's used selection, so are there any Porsche indies that one would suggest speaking too?

I used to have a 2017 Panamera Hybrid, with the larger battery. In colder weather, that really only managed 16/20 miles, and not much better with warmer weather. Looking on a Porsche forum, folk with the 2016 are getting 11-15 in warm conditions, and 9-12 miles in colder conditions.

Doesn't sound like you were too happy with it? Any thoughts would be welcome.

It was a lovely car, and in EV mode, a lovely way to travel,
with a fantastic interior. I wish the range has been a bit better though, but it was quite a heavy car.

I found I put it on charge after each trip, as soon as s I got home, so there was always some juice in there. Doing that, I didn't really have to fill the tank up very much.

Also, with the batteries in the boot floor it didn't feel the most balanced of cars when cornering, and without the EV assistance, the V6 felt a bit strained, even with the twin turbo V6, because of the weight, and extra weight of the batteries.

At the time, I really wanted the Diesel V8 but they were far to expensive, and hard to find.

Oddly, one of the main reasons I sold it is we found that we really needed the rear middle seat, which the Panamera sadly didn't have.

The hybrid is decent expect 10-12 miles out of the battery in summer with 7-9 in winter, they're a nice place to be the V6 feels like it's been working hard.

I’d push for a Sport Turismo for the looks and practicality but they’re closer to 40k. New Panamenema isn’t available as an estate as they’re trying to push people into Taycans so residuals might work out better than a saloon. Might!

Thanks, Andy. I can just about afford the cheapest Taycan but I don't have a charging point available at home. I understand that charging on the street or at points in London is about as expensive as petrol.
