I have watched all of Ricky at RE Performance videos on the Gen 1. Car in question is a 2008 V8 Manual. Very very excited to go and see it, its a dream car and my first proper grown up car purchase and as close to a supercar as I will (likely) ever get (given the debate rages over if the R8 is a supercar).

Dealer seems to only sell more prestige type metal so I am hoping it's a good sign.

Should it be "the one" I would like to have a specialist give the car a once over, there is one near by that has a good reputation, I assume I should be able to propose this and not cause offence? I will of course cover the cost of the check over, is it considered normal to place a deposit during this? Will the dealer expect costs for taking to it to and from the specialist? I am not sure on what the etiquette is here.

Just want to make sure this is head over heart purchase as I appreciate buying a lemon will result in my divorce hehe

Sounds exciting - hope it goes well!
Dealer should not have an issue with getting the PPI done (if they do not want that, then I’d get a little worried).
From experience you don’t need to place a deposit, but they will usually want an agreement in principle on price subject to the inspection result.
Good luck

When I bought a McLaren from Romans St Albans they were happy to take and fetch it from McLaren Hatfield for an inspection, they didn't charge for that, however I had to put down a deposit on the car first, and as you say I paid McHatfield to do the inspection itself. It was an SoR car which may have led to the requirement for the deposit.

The dealer should be happy for you to do this, because it means you are paying hundreds of pounds for the inspection itself which you won't get back either way, so it means you're probably fairly committed to buying the car. If not then walk away.

One issue is that some independents with good reputations get booked up, so then you could be looking at a 4+ week wait to get a car booked in, obv the dealer may sell the car to someone else in such a period. I would call the specialist in advance to have a chat and establish their lead times, if you haven't already.

Well I went, I saw it, I test drove it and I bought it!

Well I have agreed to buy it, it had already been to Audi for an inspection so that taken care of it was a case of making sure I liked it and that Mrs geeks was happy. Test drive was great, chap fitted trader plates and sent the wife and I on our way, it purred like a kitten, rode far far better than I imagined, gearbox is great with the click clack fitted gate and that engine, oh that engine even Mrs geeks was taken with how much she liked it. So a deal was done and it's being delivered next week. One very happy new owner of a Gen 1 R8 V8 manual in Mugello Blue smile

I'd love an R8, it surfaced when I bought my first TT and always felt like the dream car to get one day.

Scares me how much the run costs though would be now.

Lovely colour that. Glad it's worked out.

Been hankering after a manual r8 v8 for years. Now I'm in the position to buy, I'm feeling as though they're maybe a tad too old and long in the tooth, but I still find myself lusting after one.
