2016 Mazda6, leak near alternator
Discussion
Hopefully someone can assist with this. Went to view a Mazda6 with a friend (for the friend) and he really liked the car, however I spotted a build of up oily gunk over the top of the alternator and quite close to the alternator belt, I also believe the waterpump belt is below here as well.
I raised this with the dealer, said they would fix it. When we arrived today to pick up the car, I asked about it and he said it was fixed. I asked him what the problem was and he stated it was a loose bolt, which sounds like something he just made up because he doesn't know lol.
Here is a photo of the before and after:
I've read the hydraulic tensioner can leak on these but not sure if that's where the leak is actually coming from. Photos of that leak on the internet don't really show oil over the top of the alternator like that.
Between the before and after, it looks like there is some sort of sealant sandwiched in there. I don't think this was there before but it's hard to tell because it was so dirty.
I never got to check the car at the dealer because it was utterly pishing down, so we just done the transaction and went on our way.
I'm also a little concerned about the quality of any repairs because when we went to get the car I noticed there was a small dinky little garage at the back of the lot and there was a mechanic there working on a car, this raises questions over if they actually done a proper MOT or not. There is no receipt of work for the leak fix, which makes me believe they fixed it themselves.
Thoughts from the above 2 photos? I did take a video but that's mostly of the underside, which was quite clean considering the car is nearly 10 years old.
