Jaguar XE R-Sport - 2017
Discussion
Six months into owning my BMW 520d I'm getting bored. I love the look of the beemer but it's a boring place to be, even on my long jaunts across our motorway network.
It is comfy though, I'll give it that.
I am finding the BMW just a little bit too big for my needs and I'm contemplating swapping it for something a touch smaller and more fun to be in.
Naturally my head says just get a 3 series.
Looking also at Jags and the XF looks on par with the 5 series where the XE looks more 3 series territory. I understand the engines cause some concerns so any XE owners able to give their input would be welcome.
For the above reason I'd probably look to go used approved.

Caveat with any Jaguar is to avoid the diesel engines if you can, some are more reliable than others but the 2.0L Ingenium is fundamentally rotten. There's a Reader's Cars thread on here where a very experienced mechanic buys a broken down low mileage F-Pace with the same engine and it was an exercise in frustration, I think after all the trials and tribulations of fixing it up it proceeded to fail several times.
I had an XE 300 R-Sport AWD from new for 3 years before the M4. Was a great car, no issues, quick, good handling and a comfortable place to be. The touchscreen was a bit fiddly though. The AWD did mean I was getting 27-28mpg in combined driving, would probably have been low 30s if it was RWD

Didn’t choose as much smaller in the back than the 3
If you have a saloon I am guessing having functional rear seats is fairly important. If not 4 series. If so, every review of the XE basically says "how t f did they get such little space in the back?" Useless for adults, not great even for kids.

You may want to read up on the ingenium 4 cylinder engine problems before committing.
I've seen a letter from JLR to its dealers warning then of the oil dilation? issues with he Ingenium diesel engines and to steer customers away from their diesel cars if they are likely to only do short journeys.Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
