Hi all - needing a larger car so have settled on the Peugeot 5008. Looking at two of them; one is £2k cheaper as it has 12k more mileage (35k at 5 years old).
Does 35k versus 23k on a 5 year old car really matter (it's not like it's 50k) for 2 thousand pounds?
We will have this car for a good few years (praying whichever one we get isn't a complete dud).
Any advice much appreciated.

Edit - obviously we'd rather have the lower mileage one but this is already a huge commitment to us so if we can take one for £2k less then that would be good. We will probably do 9k a year in any car.

Are they both equally serviced/two sets of keys etc? Even four quality (matching) tyres can tell a lot about the owners.

Both of those are pretty low mileages for a 5 year old car to be fair. Personally I'd prefer one that's likely done slightly longer runs vs only short trips

Going to look at the second one on Monday but the listing indicates keys/full servicing etc. I think they are both ex-motability probably. Will look at the tyres closely!

Thanks! Never sure how much weight to put on mileage. Looked at one that had done 55k but it felt like it had lived a life already

If the only thing effecting choice ‘mileage’, then I’d go for the higher miles and save 2K.

The higher miles is apparently the more expensive according to the thread title.

Hi there - in my head the title made sense at the time of posting and now I'm not sure what I was trying to say.....!
Higher mileage vs £2k more for lower mileage....

Anyway, the 2 grand cheaper car with higher mileage turned out to be a dud in person so it wasn't just the mileage that brought the price down, but the interior had taken a hit and was quite well worn (I know it's a 5 year old car but still....).

Just going around in circles trying to decide if that much money on a 5 year old Peugeot is INSANE or not but we really do like the interior space and it's a pleasant drive!

You mentioned it was an ex motability car? I don't want to generalise but my ex wife's family had several and every one was treated like st. It didn't seem to be like leasing a normal car, I don't think there was any penalty for sending it back in a ruined state.

5 year to me should still be like new inside, especially at that mileage.

I think both of them are - and a fair few 5008s are. Our current car was also ex-motability but was in good condition. If we were looking for a 1.2 we'd have a lot more choice but our current car is a 1.2 and smaller than a 5008 so don't fancy heaving around in a small engine for another 5 plus years. Also the wet belt issue was with the 1.2?

I thought Motobility cars were kept for 3 years, apart from the odd one where there are delays in ordering a replacement.
My mother-in-law seems to get a new Motobility car every 3 years and treats it like her own pride and joy and is garaged every night

So it seems from google that motabilty lease lengths are 3 years or 5 years for adapted vehicles. Which explains why the £2k cheaper one had damage/adaptations to the boot

In-laws have motability - theirs is now 5 years old (they liked it so much they kept it longer! - decent spec Mazda CX5) - they refused to extend beyond 5yrs so they've got a Jogger coming in a few weeks time.

There is a bonus of up to £750 based on condition of the car when returned so they do incentivise to look after them.

Update in case anyone ever finds this thread again - bought a slightly newer 1.6 automatic GT 5008 than what we were looking at and absolutely love it!
Have only ever had old second hand cars so this feels like a quite a step up (never had a BMW/merc etc so my expectations are probably quite low). Its so easy to drive, very comfortable on 3 hour journey and has loads of boot space. Yes the reversing camera is a bit rough but I'm not watching films through it so it's fine.

C Class and above, you’d be right. B Class, I’m not so sure.
