Hello all, this is my first post on the forum. I've been debating getting a new car for about 12 months now, and I have managed to narrow it down to two very different cars. For context, I am a 29-year-old single male, and I currently drive a 118i. I've enjoyed it, as it's rear-wheel drive, but I'm after something a bit more fun. I barely have any passengers, so practicality doesn't matter to me at all.

I can't decide between a BMW Thundernight Purple 230i (I can't afford a 240i)

Or a Performance Blue Hyundai i30N with DCT. Both are very different cars, I know, however, I like both for many reasons and just can't decide what to go with.

I was wondering what you all thought?

Welcome,

I30N all the way.

I loved mine, fantastic car! I'd get the manual personally!

Only note id say: personal preference the blue is hideous, black or white looks much better and will probably look better in 5 years time too!

I had all the red faff painted black on mine, looked fantastic!

Whatever you decide, i'm sure youll enjoy it!

Hi if you want a fun entertaining steer then the i30N is the hands down winner out of those two.

The hyundai is a better car by most other metrics, even though it's a bit bland looking.

Personally I don't get why what a car looks like being top of peoples priorities, they're either sat in it driving it so cant see, or it's parked outside where they can't see. Unless it's purely for validation from strangers. In which case, CBT might help.

It just has to be the BMW as it looks so much better and will hold it’s appeal for many years to come.

Hyundai for me , but then I have absolutely no love for the BMW and I own an i20N, excellent car like it’s bigger brother the i30N

mind bending for me to think the appearance of a car is not top of peoples priority when buying a car.

Have no history with either brand, but Hyundai seems to be more fun if that’s your brief, and plenty of time after the Hyundai to get into another BMW if you still wish to.

I'd chose the BMW because Thundernight is such a great colour!

But I'm sure I'd find a way to make it a 240i somehow.

When faced with a dilemma then chose the third option.

As you rarely carry passengers, and want something sport and RWD, buy a Caterham 7

Surely you could go for an older car and get into a 240i?

If you're prioritising premium feel, RWD dynamics, and a unique look, the BMW 230i is the way to go. But if you're after raw fun, excitement, and don't mind switching to FWD with a bit more of a "hot hatch" vibe, the i30N will definitely satisfy. Like others have said I'd go older and get a 240i though.

I’d prefer to have a coupe so the BMW for me but don’t forget about the fastback version of the i30N - these look pretty good
