So we’ve had our XC60 for years and after a series of issues, it’s time to move on.

Wife wants something similar, but I find it just ok. It’s comfortable and practical, but it’s not the least bit exciting to drive and we no longer need a diesel.

I’ve been trying to convince her that we need a 3 series touring or a Octavia vrs but she’s resisting and wants a SUV style higher drive position. I will slip in a couple of estates to test, but she seems fairly set on this and she’ll be the main driver as I still have my 130i to run around in.

Here’s the ideal requirement, what would your suggestion be?
- petrol
- family wagon with decent boot space
- something nice to drive
- leather interior
- manual
- decent reliability/not too costly to repair
- 15-20k budget

I feel your pain, my wife is the same..

She's now got a Seat Ateca and to be fair it's actually not that bad. Decent on fuel (it's the 1.4 TSI with the clever cylinder deactivation) and we often see around 50mpg on a run and 38-40 around town.

It's got heated leather, car play etc.

Skoda Karoq worth a look as well.

We've got a 2014 XC60 R Design 2.4 D5, which is a great all round car but doesn't excite me either, we've just replaced our 2nd car, 2007 Octavia VRS TDi with a Honda e:Ny1, due to one of their very cheap PCP deals.

We are also looking at replacing the XC60, my wife wanting again another SUV / 4x4, even though we have no need for a 4x4, but she likes the high up driving position... she'd like a Rang Rover Sport but appreciates a Discovery Sport is more appropriate and thinking of one of the last 2.2 diesels, which I appreciate isn't ULEZ etc but we have the Honda if we need to go into London etc.
Our budget is perhaps up to £15k max but struggling to find a petrol auto 4x4 that meets the budget and requirements (and badge snobbery...)

For her ungratefulness buy her a Rover 75 tourer.

As usual ZX provides a solid list of options here. I'd add an X1 or X3.

My wife is exactly the same with the driving position and we've gone from an XC60 to an estate but it won't be used by her in the main.

I'm a fan of the Octys and have had 2 but I reckon she might find the interior a step or two down depending on what spec the XC60 was.

Add this to the 'must try estate'....

Get a much newer car here, budget can increase on one of these too.

I've just been through similar, other half wanted the higher driving position, I wanted her to have 4WD for winter commuting etc...

We settled on an Audi Q5 S Line. I did very well managing to get a 2017 car with the nappa leather seats and B&O stereo for £18k, so far so good!

It's auto rather than manual, however probably ticks all your other boxes. It's surprisingly spritely and not too bad on fuel (2 litre turbo petrol)

I have to say that I find the X1 in particular feels cheap for what they cost.
