2015+ Touareg / Alternatives?
Discussion
Hi all,
We've a V70 which has had electrical issues and the other half is fed up with it (and all Volvos now).
Use case:
I need a large vehicle (2 kids and a wife with biking habits)
Will do 6000 miles a year, mainly on A-roads and motorways, as we live in the country.
Needs to have heated seats.
Needs to be reliable.
Ideal budget approx 10k but could stretch to more if needed.
Needs a big boot for dog, pram & some room for bags
Needs to be ULEZ compliant for regular trips into Bristol & London
Needs to look smart, wife's not a fan of Peugeots etc...
We've been looking at;
- 2015+ Touareg with sub 100k milage (i've heard they don't last forever)
- VW Passat Estate (are these reliable? are there any years to avoid / go for?)
Other things considered:
Skoda Superb - wife doesn't like the way it looks
Toyota Land Cruiser - looks and price $$$
Anything I've missed? Any advice on the Touareg as i've heard they're plagued with issues... but also super reliable?
Many thanks!

Citroen Berlingo

Thanks Benno
I think we'll struggle with the size of the Yeti and the other half will want a bit more curb appeal than the Berlinngo
The Berlingo is pretty good for everything you've mentioned barring curb appeal, for bikes, prams, dogs etc theres little better. My wife was also allergic to them but acknowledged how suited to life they were at that point in time.I think we'll struggle with the size of the Yeti and the other half will want a bit more curb appeal than the Berlinngo
Passat will be smaller than the V70 in the boot area, and *maybe* a little bigger in the back seats. Age dependent they're generally fairly reliable, just make sure the engine has been looked after, and the gearbox if it's DSG.
I spent about 2 years in a pre-facelift Touareg (63 plate R-line), and got shot because of high service/fuel/tax/insurance costs. That said, it was a purely financial decision to help with general tightening of purse strings, and we still miss the imperious driving position and the massive amount of standard kit in the R-line. The general feel in the cabin was excellent!
The boot will be smaller than the V70 but still a good size, and plenty of space in the rear seats. 8 speed auto only (dual clutch jobby IIRC but feels like a traditional torque converter). The body is easy to place in tight spaces and the standard 3.0tdi engine is excellent - but can suffer from a few common issues. I sold mine with a blown rocker cover gasket that would have cost £1k for a main dealer to fix, probably a few hundred less at a good indy.
Shame the Superb has been poopooed, as that is what we moved into, and it is absolutely excellent!
