Cheap Merc E Class Convertible - Issues / Model ?
Discussion
My wife has reluctantly given up her SLK as it was rarely used as we have two kids
I did consider a CLK or a 3 series but she prefers the look of the E-class
Budget circa £5k, it'll only do a couple of thousand miles a year
Obviously Auto, most seem to be diesel
They seem to have issues with the roof, anything else to be aware of ?

I didn't know e class convertibles had dropped that low, £5k buys a pretty decent CLK, I'd imagine a £5k E convertible would be pretty ropey.I did consider a CLK or a 3 series but she prefers the look of the E-class

With your budget in mind it's hard to find a good E Class as they only have the 1.8 engine which can have timing chain issues, it's the same for the 1.8 CLK's too.I did consider a CLK or a 3 series but she prefers the look of the E-class

You must have a problem with your search settings, there are loads on AutoTrader and eBay - are you only looking at petrol versions ?I was mostly looking at 2.1 diesel unless there was a reason to buy the 3.0 diesel or petrol (which are rare)
I didn't even know there was a convertible IS250 nor A5 convertible
Perhaps if I'd show her those first they'd be an option but now she's seen the E-Class Merc she wants one
In fairness it does look a class above the alternatives
Unless they're hideously expensive to run or have problems - which would be why I would eliminate the 6 series BMW, having been bitten by an X5 in the past

Nope nothing wrong with my searches, due to your OH low annual mileage (I wrongly assumed you'd want a petrol) the 2.1d is pretty much bulletproof bit it is a bit gruff the 3.0d is the pickI was mostly looking at 2.1 diesel unless there was a reason to buy the 3.0 diesel or petrol (which are rare)
