Private seller overpriced car
Discussion
I'm looking at a pickup - 2014 reg, 72k miles. Local to me which is a bonus but seller wants £6k, I've offered £5k which is top of my budget - WBAC value is £3.3k and motorway would offer £4.1k. Seller not budging - would I be unreasonable to point out that I think it's overpriced (and I could collect it this afternoon) - I'm sure they know what the Motorway value is etc? It's been for sale for a little while now - I'm sure I'll be told to take a hike....

It’s their car so they sell it for what they want. If it’s overpriced by one that is the right price elsewhere. If you can’t find one you know it’s not overpriced. You have already implied it is overpriced in your opinion by making an offer and not buying it at the asking price.
I don’t see what you would gain by explicitly telling the seller you think it is overpriced, other than annoying the seller.
Maybe just message them with your contact details and say your £5k offer is still open and if they change their mind then they can contact you.

The OP has already low balled the seller. Regardless of what trade prices show - if someone mentioned these to me I'd block their number.I don’t see what you would gain by explicitly telling the seller you think it is overpriced, other than annoying the seller.

Just move on. Abit weird.
Have you been to see it so it's "real" offer not one of these (to me) weird sight unseen "I'll give you" offers?
If so I'd just leave it or perhaps send a friendly "offer still stands and I can pick it up tomorrow" type message.
Can't see any point getting into "I think you're overpriced because" stuff as frankly the seller will soon find that out if it doesn't sell at the price it's listed at.

OP do you have conversations with Tesco Customer Services because you think their bread is too dear?
Surely if what you want for the price you’re prepared to pay is reasonable there are other options available.
I suspect that your restricted budget is clouding your judgement. Most times I’ve bought a car recently I’ve started out with a budget and then seen something I prefer for more money so have upped my budget. It’s hard sometimes when you look at what you can have.
Put simply you can’t afford his price so move on and look elsewhere.

If you can’t find one you know it’s not overpriced.WBAC and Motorway are both Trade only buying platforms,Motorway is a guided reserve price so could sell for much more and WBAC is BCA who sell to the trade for obviously more then the offer price and both have fees on top so to use there price valuations is totally irelivent. If you think it's over priced move on and find one that fits your budget.

A while back I was tracking the market for a few particular cars.
Lots of cars were advertised with asking prices of £4k to £5k private, which might be about £5k to £7k trade.
I put a few into WBAC and got offers very much lower.
Quite a few cars which looked to be priced a bit high sold very quickly.
Generally the ones which looked like well cared for examples.
The trade prices often seem to reflect mediocre cars which disappoint when you travel to look at them.
In the long run, it's often better to pay slightly 'over the odds' for the best you can find.
It can just be a bit random.
Sometimes private sellers are deluded, sometimes they are just not in a rush, they are happy to try holding out for a good price for a while.
Some are not even 100% committed to selling.

OP the best you can do IMO, if you've seen it, is go back and say you are really keen and what could they do for a quick/clean sale.
The longer a car is for sale the more hassle it is for a seller it also costs to some degree, insurance, advert extensions, then the time factors, fielding calls, arguing with the wife etc. In your scenario, the seller can stick to their guns at £6K or bail with motorway at £4,xxx, so you'd think they'd reduce a bit, but you'll have to give too as £5K seems unrealistic.

OP, if £5k would get you something similar first thing tomorrow, go buy the other one. If not, then this one isn't overpriced. In the end a deal means you both agree on a price. If you don't you don't and these are just two meaningless numbers.
You could try telling the seller the Carwow/Motorway/WBAC price. It is a real "buy it now" thing to the seller. But they probably already know it.

Whenever I've sold a car on FB Marketplace I get loads of messages telling me it's overpriced. Normally they've sold pretty quickly so I tend to just ignore them.O/T There was ONE time when I seemingly had overpriced it. I ended up cutting the price by 40% and it sold pretty quickly. However, strangely, i was still getting messages at the lower price telling me I'd overpriced it. I think some people have no idea what the price should be and just try their luck.

They’ll sell it for what they think it’s worth.
But I just put pickup, 6.5k max, 80k miles max into auto trader and there are only 3 ones newer than 2013 coming up countrywide. So I’d not be so sure it’s that overpriced.
And most pickups will get a bit of abuse, so if someone has a nice tidy one they might get good money for it.But I just put pickup, 6.5k max, 80k miles max into auto trader and there are only 3 ones newer than 2013 coming up countrywide. So I’d not be so sure it’s that overpriced.
'Local' is also significant sometimes, I live in Devon and prices are a bit variable, all the cheap things are always miles away (unless you're selling!) and it sometimes takes time for the right right thing or the right buyer to turn up.
The whole 'I can pick this up tomorrow' offer thing is also a turn off to many sellers, especially from people who've not seen the goods.
