Too many cars, we’ve liked having a choice for different occasions over the past few years and been using them throughout europe for drag races, track days, rallys, classic car events etc but we’re moving onto other things now & decluttering which includes cars, we’ve collected too much & they just take too much time to look after..
So..
Current fleet
Aventador 700-4 coupe
720 coupe
Amg gtc roadster
190e cosworth
Testarossa
280se cabriolet
Range rover l405 tdv8
We really want to go back to a 2 car garage like many years ago & maybe an additional small bin /town car as we no longer have a big dog that necessitates a 4x4 and i dont want to tow anything anymore (was for track days and the longer haul rallys)
The car we use most and gives most to us as a couple, has and always will be, a roadster, the amg roadster in this case, this car even did track days and amazed, a true future classic imo and considering throwing into uk storage and just forgetting about it tbh, that way it gets rid of the looking after it which is my primary objective here..
My whittling of the idea has come down to two cars but i’m struggling to find the colours etc i want (720 spider and a dbs Superleggera volante) so thought i’d put it out there for additional ideas?
So one car needs to be a luxury roadster for long trips, good luguage space 200L + sound good with a real sense of occasion, £200k max
The other is a convertible supercar for rallys, tours etc but still needs decent luggage and comfort, hence the 720 spider search as i’m familiar with the suspension and the top down would just add to it. Again, 200k max really
I tested the bentley years ago and didnt like it, felt too audi and too much bentley badging, had a 2019 S63 cabriolet (4.0tt) for a while which was better but lacked occasion
Love the weissmanns but interiors are a bit naff and they’re crazy money for what they are, love that exterior styling though..Dont mind American, corvettes in particular, love the idea of the new zr1..
Anything glaringly obvious i’m missing? apart from being distasteful , probably a worthwhile post just for the incoming piss take
Ps- dont mind older stuff as i always have an eye on future values but absolutely no really old classics! I’m done with that scene! 488 pista spiders for instance but i think they have a ways to drop before going back up again

The amg gt sounds already ticks the boxes you describe so why not just keen that in one half of the garage?
I’d then keep the other half for one of the first 2 unless you need something more usable.
I’d love to tbh but at 160L luggage its just too limited and the suspension is a little too harsh for longer trips (getting older) and we’ve had her for quite a long time now, sense of occasion is a little lacking to, which is nice sometimes when you select it for that very reason but it was bought with one eye on track days and thats no longer a thing for me tbh. The dbs seems to be a very good evolution of the gtc if i think about the areas its missing that would make us use it for longer trips but even the 720 spider sort of fills that remit to as it has good luggage space, funnily, the dbs and 720 are very close in terms of their usage, maybe too close!

Seems like a bit of man maths is going on here to justify new vehicles… The dbs seems to be a very good evolution of the gtc if i think about the areas its missing that would make us use it for longer trips but even the 720 spider sort of fills that remit to as it has good luggage space, funnily, the dbs and 720 are very close in terms of their usage, maybe too close!
I sold my mclaren as I found it super fast but pretty impractical, my budget was lower and I wanted more usability. I’ve always wanted an Aston but close up, used ones have been a bit rough and new is tantamount to burning £50 notes.
I’ve ended up with a lightly used P450 f type and a 992 T, the f type was to be an amg gt cab but couldn’t find the right one.
Have you driven a 992 S/T?

Well yes to the math, ive deliberated a while on this one and hence the filtering to the point of the cars i mention, sometimes looking that hard for too long can mean youve missed something obvious, so it was putting it out there just in case.I sold my mclaren as I found it super fast but pretty impractical, my budget was lower and I wanted more usability. Most of what comes back and my answers negating them will be because ive looked at them already, 911 not a chance as they leave me cold, i get they’re very good technically but i dont like the way they drive 996, 991,992 experience, wife had a boxster to which i again really didnt like.
I forgot to add my current Aventador to the list so that would have given an idea as to where i lean..

If colour is the only obstacle to finding the right 720, why not get it wrapped or covered with peelable paint?
You can have any colour you like then and at this price point most people are PPF'ing cars anyway so man maths means there's no additional cost/free.
I did exactly that with the S63 i mentioned, twice after a poor first install! never again, at point of selling you need to unwrap at which point you could suffer peeling of paint and at best you end up driving around in a car you dont like until it sells good shout thoughYou can have any colour you like then and at this price point most people are PPF'ing cars anyway so man maths means there's no additional cost/free.
Portofino M? as the tourer dbsslv substitute maybe…
seems to get favourable reviews on here and harrys garage, decent luggage space, a lttle less relaxing to drive than the Superleggera but plenty of torque from the turbo, looks nice but comparing flagship aston with entry ferrari so maybe it doesnt stack
I've deliberately never owned a ferrari and always went maserati route as i thought i’d never feel comfortable in a ferrari but now ive owned the lambo i dont think it bothers me that much, more about if the car fits its role these days, but attracting the wrong attention vs the aston could be a concern, always had friendly attention to the aston and maserati and that makes them easier to live with or leave alone in foreign places.
