Have decided to go from two cars down to one.

I've had an MX5 and an X3 2.0d Sport.

Thoroughly bored with both, and need some excitement in my life. Sold the MX5 on AT this afternoon and immediately put my lovely spec X3 up on AT for sale.

Three current options for the next car.

Budget is 20k max.

a) 100k-mile ish 997.1. I've had a 997.1 C2S and a 997.2 Turbo PDK before, so am well aware of IMS issues on the earlier cars.
b) 50-60k-mile ish 987.2 Boxster S Manual
c) 50-60k-mile ish 987.2 Cayman 2.9 (probably PDK)
d) something else similar not boring

I'm leaning very much towards Cayman 2.9 PDK from an age/reliablity/desirability route.

What else, if anything, should I be considering? This will be a daily - at least for a while (although I do have the option of a 2007 120i for £1500 ... I've had two cars for several years so am also weighing up the options there...)

(and I don't think I want a 996)

It’s bore score you need to watch for on a 997.1, IMS is fine on all but the earliest. Carreras seem less prone to it than S, but that may be a function of the relative rarity of the standard cars.

How about an F Type, or an XKR? £20k will get you into a nice facelift 5 litre XKR, or an F Type V6S

Not sure a 5 litre car is the best daily! Never been a Jaguar fan, but thanks for the suggestion.

Ok if you feel that a 5 litre isn’t up to the job as a daily then I’d go for a C63 !

actually i wouldn't mind one - but the insatiable thirst puts me off. Had a V8 M3 before and that was bad enough @ 20mpg.
