Context: after the divorce my only car is a 350z convertible, which is not very practical for an occasional 60 mile commute, regular life, and hobbies.

I was thinking of using the car allowance to supplement it or switch, potentially with a BMW 4 series, an F32/F33 or maybe even a F36.

That is because I need something that can tow a trailer to go camping, is all-wheel drive to extricate itself from muddy fields, and would not induce me into killing myself when I drive it.

Is there something else that I have not considered and might do the trick?
Or even something more boring but cheaper, so I can keep the Z.

Spend around a third & you can get an E Coupe which you can tow with & then you can keep the Z:

Tesla Y

Does do all you ask. Can I ask if you have a car allowance - is there a salary sacrifice option?

I thought about electric options, but I live in an apartment and there is no way to charge at home.

Oh, wow, they are nice, cheap, and with loads of torque. Is there something I should look out for when shopping around?

The main thing is the oil cooler that's buried in the V, it's a labour intensive job but not expensive parts wise.

It's not on every car but if you can smell burning oil that could be an issue, I'd always look for one with the pan roof as it's a really nice addition to the car.

You can also add Android auto/car play for around £350 inc fitting, I have one from Bavarian Auto on my E Coupe & it's been good.
