Paying for a car before seeing it
Discussion
Hello, looking for a bit of advice.
I have just placed a £500 deposit on a car which is located at the bottom of England and I live in Scotland.
In around 10 days time I’ll travel down and pick it up and bring it back up the road.
The salesman has asked if I can pay the balance before the month’s end, I’m assuming for their stats/ commission.
Financially that’s fine, but I wonder where that leaves me if the worst should happen and the car is much poorer condition than the photos and videos I’ve seen suggest and I want to walk away.
If it makes any difference, the £500 deposit was paid by credit card. The dealer is a franchised dealer too.

Car dealers aren't often first in line to do you a favour, don't feel obliged to do them one. If you do, be sure to get it in writing that they will refund you if you are not satisfied with the car on inspection - if they won't do that for you, don't do anything for them.
