I’m currently running a 2013 Transporter, 2015 Audi TTS and 2016 Golf GTD. The T5 is non-negotiable and is due some intensive maintenance soon anyway, so doesn’t come into the below at all.

I’m looking to make a decision soon about replacing one or both of the cars. Factors to consider are that:

- I’d like one of them to be new or sub-3 years age
- I have one (small) garage, so one of them can be “nice” but has to be compact and good for long solo business journeys
- One of the two also needs to cover longer distance family use - four-up, covering triathlons, relatives etc
- Kids will be driving within lifetime of replacements so one has to be insurance-friendly

Current thinking is either:

1) Pair existing TTS with something like a new non-performance Golf. Sets template for future sports options but demands a lot of the other car.
2) Swap both cars and getting a practical duo like a Fabia and GTI / R / S3 / RS3.

Budget is realistically £50-60k for both.

I’d be glad of any suggestions or things to think about - not so much the models, more the combination of car types please. smile

hehe

But seriously, why the VAG stable.

Why the T5.

So many other options with only minor compromises.

It's just such a 19", grey, 24mpg, understeery outlook.

Where's the emotion man. The imagine. No, ignore that. Where's the fizz wink

Other than that, we’re all ears.

It’s weird it sounds like you should just keep the cars you got

Why keep the tts and then trade a golf in for another golf.
Just keep it??

Don’t understand

Tick boxes.

One vehicle (The van) is for four people, bikes, and softcore camping?

What's the second one for?

If you're going to blow £60k on the venture at least end up with something exciting that makes you glance back at it after locking it up!

Leaving you with 5-10k to equip the children with some insurance friendly wheels when the time comes.

Up! And a 911. The obsession with various rebodied golfs is odd.

If you want a newish car for long distance family use you need something at least mid size exec maybe like a 3 year old M340i xDrive Touring, or similar offering from other makes.

The other car if it needs to be 'nice', and compact, and for long distance solo journeys, points to you keeping your TTS IMO.

And forget about an insurance-friendly car for the kids IMO you are better chopping your TTS for a base spec Fiesta as and when you need it. IMO it's too much of a compromise having some wheezy spartan motor on the books as one of your 2 cars for years just because in the future they will learn on it.

We ran two cars (fun one, family one) until we needed a learner car for the eldest and sold the fun car in exchange for the aforementioned Fiesta
