As above really, I’ve zeroed in on the Nissan Note so far but I want to broaden our search.

It needs to have as much life left in it as possible.

It depends as to where you are, and as to what is available - Have you considered a Skoda Roomster?

Shed money! £1,000 ideally. Maybe a little over. Not £1,500.

I think that may be a case of get what you can find rather than searching for a specific model. A few months ago I sold a 57 plate Polo auto that had done 140k miles & was Cat C and the bumper and bonnet were still in primer. I sold it for £1800 & I could have sold it ten times over there was that much interest in it.

This, small automatic cars must be the most in demand type of car at the moment. Just having an Auto gearbox means it is usually double the price of the manual equivalent.

I don't think you are going to find much for £1500 I am afraid.

I agree with the comments above, I think you need to take what you can get if it must be small, auto, and cheap. May need to travel to get it, too.

Here's an auto 206 for a grand:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/116300630050?

Wouldn't be my first choice, but it exists and fits your metrics.

If it were me, I'd put a bid in on this Honda Logo:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204949758322?

They have the advantage that, well, an awful lot of people have never heard of them, so not something that gets searched for much.

Only thing I'd advise as well is get insurance quotes on everything. Who cares if the car costs £1k instead of £1500 if it then costs £1k more to insure.

Good luck getting a halfway decent small auto for a new driver at that price! Small insurable automatic cars command a premium due to how (comparatively) few there are and how many people pass with automatic only licenses- a proportion that has been increasing by over 100% YoY.

Yep it's a tough challenge but it is one which has temporarily gone away as the buyer has had to change jobs and doesn't have the money yet.

I reserve the right to wake the thread up in future months!

For me shed money is 2k and under, as is the consensus on the shed thread.
Bare in mind a leaf is £0 road tax and no mechanical servicing, so can up budget by another circa £300 where possible.

Can get leaf under 2.5k if you can cope with 80ish miles range
