Suggestions for Audi A5 replacement
Discussion
G/f's 2013 A5 diesel has developed a bit of noise at speed, and it's been diagnosed as a gearbox bearing.
We're going to get quotes for a gearbox rebuild (it's a generally decent car apart from that), but are also considering replacing it, so looking for suggestions.
She averages about 20k a year with 150 mile round trip 2 or 3 times a week. So decent power and comfort matter. Diesel probably makes most sense but petrol with decent mpg on long journeys would work.
She is a bit of a car snob - another A5 is probably top of the list. Other Audi equivalents are fine but she's not likely to jump into a Kia or Dacia.
Currently manual and that is probably preferable but not 100% necessary.
Budget is probably about £20k for something around 4 or 5 years old but for the right car could be higher - say max of £30k but it would have to be a damn good car for that.

First and foremost if your G/F has a manual diesel Audi A5 and would consider another, I’m also assuming from your post that she’s not fan of SUV’s or EV’s then your first priority must be to marry her
Another Audi A5 or even repairing the one you have would be a good call, plus the Mercedes C Class Coupe is an obvious choice.
As you clearly keep your cars a long time, I’d be looking at a current shape 4 Series Coupe. Many are approaching 3 years old and should be under £30k. I’ve had mine approaching 2 years and I have no intention of replacing it as it’s a great drive.

F type is a nice idea - been tempted by them a few times myself.
We've spoken to a gearbox specialist who reckons it's most likely the diff (£1.2k + vat) but if it is the gearbox it should be about £2k + vat.
We'll take the car for them to test drive next week and see what they think, but we'll probably go in that direction.
If not, we may change what we're looking for since she's always said that my TT Roadster would replace her A5 eventually (although it wasn't supposed to be yet) and then it will be me looking for something to replace that.
