Importing and trailering a car from Germany to UK
Discussion
Hello Everyone,
Im looking for a bit of help on importing a car from Germany.
Ive got my eye on a 2003 Mercedes listed in germany at the moment.
Ive contacted various import companies such as CARS and Import my car to see if they could help with the import, indeed they can but the prices they are quoting are around £4000 + VAT the car in question is not worth more than 30k tops so obviously this is not worthwhile.
So ive been looking at bringing the vehicle back myself on a trailer. So far all the UK import stuff is easy to find online exactly how to do it step by step. Ive found a company that can do me VIN insurance while i bring the car back. Im in the process of finding out whats needed on the German export side.
So far i have found a lot of information on the German Zoll website but it has thrown up one hurdle
It states i need an export declaration as the first stage, which im currently in contact with the seller for, to see if they can find a customs agency in Germany to do this part and it should be fine. However the last hurdle i have found is it states: 'In the second stage, when the motor vehicle leaves the customs territory, it must be presented for departure at the customs office of exit.'
I am planning on towing it home via eurotunnel and they only appear to have a customs office on the freight/lorry side of the terminal. Im not sure whether i would have to go over to the freight side to present the vehicle at the lorry customs office then drive round to the passenger side to board the train.
Has anyone else out there trailered their own car they are importing back to the uk recently via eurotunnel and know what final steps there are for taking the vehicle out the EU?
Cheers
