My pal is looking for an suv ideally 2018 onwards, 50k ish miles and nothing bigger than a 2l and around £8k. He’s got two young girls under 6. I’ve never really looked for anything similar as I don’t have kids but all I could think of was maybe a Santa Fe or qashqai but I’d be worried about a 1.2 in such a big motor. Any ideas guys? Something around Birmingham would be brilliant!! Cheers

Your friend won't find a 2018 SUV with a decent sized engine & less than 50k on the clock for his budget.

You can find a smart ULEZ compliant SUV for that budget though.

Petrol Jeep Renegade, plastic as fk inside in most of them but high up, easy access for the kids, quirky. Noisy, unrefined, looks snazzy, but that's what you get with £8k.

See also Vitara, same but less quirk more flimsy, or MG ZS with the weedy 1.5 petrol. Essence of Brummie heartbreak!

Alternatively tell him to buy a sodding Focus, where he'll get a better car.

Yes I have a Suzuki Vitara. Go for the 1.6 naturally aspirated engine FWD (lower weight and simpler transmission). No hybrids, no turbos. Does around 50mpg. Cheap and reliable and easy maintenance.

Out of interest is there one Vitara engine with a 9 month service interval?
