My sister has asked my dad to go with her tomorrow to view this car.
Neither of them know anything about cars.

I had a look and it appeared far too cheap initially as the next cheapest Jeep compass is £12.5k and this is less than £6k.
Despite its high mileage it seems too cheap.

Also the seller doesn’t seem to exist or have any online presence

It’s a 4 hour round trip for them and I’d rather save them the effort if it’s too good to be true.

I’m also concerned my sister might have already paid some money as a holding deposit but she’s not at home for me to check that just yet

Link to the listing, please.

Cheapest I can see on AT right now is a red one at £9989.

The vehcle at least exists, and the MOT history talies with the mileage you mentuion.

Next cheapest Compass filtering for 2019 on is £8k, not £12.5k. The one you've posted is by far the highest mileage (138k is a fair few miles for a 5 year old car) so not surprising it's the cheapest.

I'm not seeing any glaring red flags tbh (other than it being a totally uninspiring car...).

Yes that was my initial thoughts too and said good luck.
It was the seller that I couldn’t locate properly and seems to have a similar name to a nearby company which my dad had thought was the same company.

The selling company on this one doesn’t have an address or working website

Ringing alarm bells for me, Lower price takes into account age and miles, so right down there around trade money but being retailed ?

Mostly because it is a dealer advert THE only car a dealer has ? No reviews, no nothing, the OP has already picked up on no online prescence.

Seems about right. If you were selling that car on AT yourself, this is the ad that AT would generate the value at.

Also, that is a Scottish car, will have done lots of miles on salty roads, All the ste from Scotland comes down south to auction, where buyers are used to seeing different prefixes, transporter loads daily.

This seems more like it:

https://find-and-update.company-information.servic...

As long as all the usual checks come back clear on the vehicle, I can't see an issue - not sure what the reliability is like on 1.6 Jeeps but it must have been serviced well enough to get there. If there's not a nice stack of service bills don't bother.

Is there a reason for this particularly? Do they just want it reasonably new for the money? I can think of other things I'd feel more confident in for 6k.

If you are selling privately, it generates a different price to retail prices. That just rings another alarm bell, where is the margin for the so called dealer who supposedly has to detail it and warrant it ?

Weird that I can't find that listed by searching. Anyway,

It doesn't look awful, but bear in mind it's had a lot of use. However, if that's been up and down the M6 all day and it's been serviced regularly, probably fine, but things like bushes and wheelbearings have a lifespan. Expect the odd "wear" related repair., and remember it was cheap when that happens.

They claim it has a service history and a cambelt just done

The drivers seat is not in the finest of shape, a bit more cleaning might revive it, https://m.atcdn.co.uk/a/media/w1024/9a68694e57a442...

One sign of a previous owner who cared a bit - it's got 4 tyres of a brand you've actually heard of, rather than chinese deathrings.

Go with an open mind and understand that it's cheap because it's done a lot of miles, which puts many people off. Overall, worth a look as long as she doesn't expect a 140k mile car to be like a 40k one.

She’s been driving an Alfa for the past 10 years and now needs something larger to carry large dog and be capable of going off road.

She doesn’t really want any advise or help picking a car. I just don’t want her paying a deposit for something to find the company turn into a ghost

That is highly possible, but there are many other reasons to avoid that car, before you get to that point.

So have you ascertained if its WM Autos Ltd or W&M Autos Ltd?

I'm intrigued :-)

Where are they viewing the car.

No idea where they are viewing. Dad says she’s asked him to go to West Byfleet.
She hasn’t given him a full address and I can’t find one online for w&m autos.
I can only find address for wm autos ltd, which appears to be near but not the same

Needs a V check and a proper look, a dealer would need £1500 from that so it’s peanuts trade

West Byfleet is the registered address on CH of the company on the add W&M Autos Ltd. However when you look at their address 113-115 Oyster Lane, Byfleet it comes back as this. Byfleet Storage Units.

Confusing or what !!

Have found some other review sites warning people from buying from w&m and will pass that on to the family to hopefully save them any wasted effort
