Hi,

I bought my car, just over 2 years ago from a BENNETTS shop in Leeds.

Prior to picking the car up there was never a mention of any issues at all, until the day I had paid and arrived to pick it up. I was told the log book wasn’t able to be found and that they thought it might be in another site. So I was obviously keen to take my new car home I said that fine aslong as it’s still taxed and that they’d get it to me within 4 weeks max.

I got in touch via email and they basically just said it’s your issue now go get a V62 form and do it that way, even though it was 2-3 weeks before my car was to be taxed and there’s no way to tax it without it (DVLA told me this) so I called, called and called until he said that he’d get it trade taxed for me in the mean time.

I sent the v62 form off and they couldn’t find the previous owner apparently, I got back in touch with the retailer again and they were giving me the same spiel as if it was my fault?

Again, after emails between them and DVLA I was just told to reapply or find the owner myself through the receipts hahaha. Crazy.

After no luck and been told it could take weeks to months, I was told they’d tax it again but I’d have to pay double for the privilege, I have a tax receipt for £20 that I paid £40 for haha.

Forward 8 months I’ve called DVLA every 3 days to check and it’s finally getting sorted and approved so hopefully I should receive it this week or next.

I just want any advice on if I have any case to pursue competition or a dispute?

Any advice is welcome.

Cheers

There's no such thing as 'trade tax.' the vehicle either has valid VED or it doesn't. Vehicles 'in the trade' recorded as such using the yellow section of a V5c become 'untaxed' and the previous owner reimbursed any left over. The new owner / keeper then has to buy VED using the green slip. Check here if it has valid VED (car tax):

https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/?_ga=2.10466...

You need a V5c to buy it, the certificate number on the top is used to buy online (or on the green slip as the new keeper) or the Post Office scans its barcode at the counter.

Just realised its post no 1, in summer hols. rolleyes

Not sure I understand exactly why if you bought the car 2 years ago you have yet to resolve this given the car would have been sold to you without tax then - the onus being on you to then tax it.
If you have been therefore driving without tax for the last 2 years you have either been lucky or as the previous poster has said , just at school.

The receipt states

“Client: DVLA MVL Services
Scheme: V5C/V5C-2 No COFTC”

I actually give reasoning as to why, frustratingly, it’s only just getting sorted properly by the DVLA. I also stated that I was not told until the day I picked it up that it didn’t have a V5. I also stated that they said the tax could be carried, I checked every week, sometime 3/4 times on the government website that it was taxed.

Thanks 👍🏻
