I've put a deposit on a yeti today. ( Refundable).

For a top spec 2016, laurin and klement (top spec) glass roof, nice leather, car play etc in silver. It's 4 x4 and 150 bhp TDI.

1 owner, low mileage (48k) , with rear view camera. Manual.

Price is £12,250 ( wheel probably need a refurb, not included in deal) and 3 months warranty, from a Suzuki dealer.

I am just having second thoughts...

If I put a couple of grand more I can get a t-roc 2018 4x4 or one of the newer skoda karoq.. it's priced towards to top end due to the low mileage.

I know that the yeti is a cool car , but I've been saving for a number of years and now thinking I should leave the yeti.. if it was say £10k, it would be easy but it's soo close to other much newer car in price.

Other cars I am considering is Honda civic 1.5, Suzuki swift sport 1.4 (boot is tiny), Octavia vrs, seat Leon ST fr.

I do like the look of the yeti and would probably mod it slightly to look more off road.

The natural successor for the Yeti is probably the Skoda Karoq.

If you get one in SEL or Edition trim it will have most if not all the toys.
These trim levels retain the Skoda party piece of being able to remove the rear seats entirely making the car a small van.

I would highly recommend it

I've got two Yeti's and I love them.
Beware of the sunroof on the L&K they have a shocking reputation for leaks.
I really wanted the 1.4 petrol but they all have the sunroof so I ended up with a diesel elegance 170
Check out the Yeti section on briskoda for more details.

I've always liked the Yeti. Never owned one but had a few courtesy cars when I had an Octavia. Times change though and it's a 8 year old car, it's never going to be a capable off-road your alternatives aren't in the SUV category, the Octavia is a cracking all rounder and far more practical than the Leon (Had both for an over lapping period). The tech can often move on a lot over that time but I'm not sure the Skoda's did much and physical buttons over touch screens are often preferred.

The Yeti has a strong following and this is reflected in the values….so should get more back than an equivalent generic SUV.

The shape and space in the Yeti really make a difference and we loved the one we had. As people have said, avoid the sunroof though.

I've always wanted a Yeti and am considering one at the moment.
£12.5k does seem at the very top end although I appreciate it is a top spec low mileage 4x4 one.
They are a completely different style and type of car to an Octavia / Leon ST, and I think it comes down to what sort (style) of car you would like / need...

Have you driven a Yeti and or similar Karoq / Octavia to help make up your mind?

A top spec, late low mileage 2.0 CR Yeti may well be north of 15k. The later diesel top spec without sunroofs will fetch the most money. Walk away from the L&K, it’s not a case of if it will leak, but when. I bought a Yeti a few months ago. There were 3 for sale that mostly met my criteria at the time.

seems a lot. Yeti is a brilliant budget car. I had one for £1500, such a utilitarian car

I'd much rather have a lovely clean yeti over a karoq. So much more personality, something you'd enjoy owning long term, enjoy washing and take pride in. The karoq is white goods.

Purely from a numbers perspective you’ll be better with the Yeti as it’ll hold its value better.

When we get a Yeti in PX we tend to sell them on again rather then auction as older people go mad for them as long as they are auto and they rarely have issues.

I remember when they launched the Monte Carlo edition 1.2 DSG and we could not get enough of them for £1000 down and £100 a month.

The Yeti is decent but 12.5k for a diesel one at a time when it faces being taxed off the road by the new Labour government looks expensive.

Is it only a 3 month warranty from Suzuki dealer because it’s a non Suzuki?
Can you find one for sale with a Skoda dealer that will give it a longer warranty?

I’ve had a L&K Yeti 1.4 and a Tiguan 1.4 (same as the Karoq) The Yeti was great, versatile but the Tiguan was miles better.

What requirements are met for the Yeti?
You can get a Toyota CHR hybrid 2019 for £13k-15k or even a Hyundia Kona EV 64KWh 2020 for £12.5k-14k with low mileage. Both much newer for a similar price.

Yetis' do seem strangely overpriced in the used market. I don't personally see the appeal.

You mention Suzuki Swift Sport (1.4T?) in your op- unless you needed the space, the Suzuki would drive and handle noticeably better and be more reliable than any VAG car.
