A few years back (2019) we had a GLC250 which, truth be told, was fantastic and ticked all Mrs DG's boxes - we dropped it only because she ended up falling in love with a yellow Final Edition SLC200. Moving on a few years the SLC went back after the finance agreement came to a close (in truth we were minded to keep it but finances at the time didn't really lend themselves to 2 'toy' cars weeping ) and we pivoted onto a Tesla MYLR.

Currently we're just under halfway through the Tesla contract and whilst it is an admirable piece of kit it's not really doing it for us and so we're being tempted with going back to ICE. Had a sit in a 300 today and absolutely loved it - everything felt 'familiar' (still!) and so we're now toying with the idea of junking the LR and getting another GLC - the only question is what to go for...

- diesel is, albeit practical, possibly a non-starter (even a Euro 6) given how much I trust the government not to screw us over, or am I being needlessly pessimistic?
- a full fat-AMG is also a no-go, both from a practicality perspective and (more importantly) a price perspective

which AIUI leaves us with
- GLC 300 4Matic AMG Line:
- GLC 300 4Matic AMG Line Premium Plus:
- GLC 300e 4Matic:

again the choice is made a little easier by the premium plus having memory seats (which is a must) and panoramic sunroof (which is nice but not essential) which I guess leaves the choice being 300 or 300e. Is the e worth having for a private punter or is it unnessessarily complicated

Outside of the the GLC:
- being quite shallow in some regards, BMW are out as (IMO) they're rather fugly.
- for some reason Audi don't appeal
- the 'basic' Macan, whilst considerably smaller holds a great deal of appeal (especially in orange cloud9 )at a similar price-point (with all options we'd want ticked)
- quite like the Jags but given recent goings on I'm not convinced it's prudent
- an Evoque might work, though their being a thief magnet is a concern (or is that only for the premium versions), plus the B.i.L. has one hehe

as things stand I suspect the Macan with an immenant end of a life might 'work' - though if they've already stopped production then, potentially, you've only got existing stock to chose from frown

Of course all this may be for naught if the Tesla residual is such that a 'buy out' is stupdily high...

Any thoughts?

Volco XC60

(being that it's customary on PH to ignore your suggestions and throw in a different one...)

Longtime Mercedes owner for years, C Classes, E Classes, CLS, but fell out with my local dealer and decided I didn't want to buy a Merc again so tried a Q5 and didn't like it, changed to an XC60 and really like it and feel it's comparable to recent Mercs I've had in terms of quality and comfort.

Worth looking at given your shortlist/considerations - look at Inscription or Inscription Pro for heated/cooled memory seats and mirrors etc.

Ah, ok, are you looking at brand new?

I would withdraw my suggestion on that basis, as I have one of the last diesels and Volvo don't make 'em anymore, and I myself probably won't change to one of the Volvo petrol hybrids as there's too many scare stories on the Volvo forums of failure of the rear drive units!

Looking at new or 'slightly' used (up to 10k-ish miles) budget would be low/mid 60's. Spec'd a Maccan up to 61 and had a sit in a new one and a 2 year old one, both were very nice (as you'd imagine)

For circa 65k you can get faster/more fun models of midsize SUV (Macan is a very good opinion):

GLC 43 £45k

F Pace SVR £60k

Bmw X3M is hard to look away from http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/2024051697...

Some nice ideas there thumbup

Popped over to a porsche dealership to have a chinwag and see what was in stock... has a sit in a very nice V6 (sounded very nice for a 6 tbh) which was well spec'd but at 71 was too rich for our tastes. Had a little chat about other options and finally (at a different dealer) tested drove a ruby copper 4-pot one..

Immediate thoughts from Mrs DG were...
- it seems to be sized between the GLC and the GLA which feels more comfortable for her (not that the GLC was troublesome in thst regard, though we didnt gel with the GLA at all)
- even with the 4-pot the performance is adequate for our needs
- it is comfortable & (for a sporty suv, relatively) quiet
- the haptic controls are neat and tidy
- the ruby copper colour is nice but doesn't really 'pop'

As nice this one was it didn't have a number of (to us) essential/desirable toys so we've, sadly, discounted that one. We're now having a chat whether new or nearly new is the way to go. Obvious advantage of new is it's exactly what you want (within price restrictions).

If we go new it'll be:
- Papaya metallic
- Black/Mojave Beige interior
- panoramic roof
- 360° camera
- steering assit
- heated windscreen/seats/steering wheel
- comfort memory seats
- maybe the dynamic lights

Plus a few other odds and sods which'll make the cost low 60's. Alternatively we could save 5% or so and get lightly used but with a different combination of options/colours

well it looks like a decision has been made by SWMBO and the GLC, baring a total disaster with a Macan , is now off the menu - thanks for the responses thumbup
