Looking for a daily tootler that's comfortable, good on long journeys and has a bit of character for the odd fun road.

Must be 4-door
Petrol
At least 280bhp
Good to drive
Good sound system
Comfortable
Automatic with a good gearbox.

I prefer bigger engines rather than turbo-charged.

I would consider a hybrid but I live in an apartment building so the benefit may be lost on me.

Running costs aren't an issue, I'll pay more of it's a premium brand.

MPG isn't an issue so long as I get character and power.

Shortlist so far:
Jaguar XE V6 S
B8 RS4
Early Panamera V8
Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce
Jaguar XFR S/C
Jaguar XJ
BMW 650i Gran Coupe
BMW 750i

Have I missed any others?

Thats got Mercedes E500 or E63 all over it.

Estates remain quite soiught after but Saloons are generally a fair bit cheaper. Awesome cars, very non-shouty compared to Audi RS/BMW M etc, but great to drive.

I would say that the Alfa is your best bet, maybe followed by a 430i or 440i BMW Gran Coupe.

From the list I'm thinking Alfa too. Although I reckon it has the most depreciation to go from the list too.

I would reckon that the Jags will loose more than the Alfa

Also, a 340i could be worth a look? I think they are late teens now pricewise

Oooh I might have to try one.

Wasn't there a revised suspension updated at some point and the later ones are better?

Ones with a blue bit on the steering wheel have a LSD.

You may get an entry level macan for that - I think my first 2 litre petrol one was about 260 horses

As said, the C63 will be difficult to resist in this situation I reckon.

I don't think that I'd ever get bored of the noise that the 6.2 V8 makes...the fuel bills on the other hand though!

I'd second that. Giulia and Stelvio appear to hold their value reasonably well.

Interesting.

I really like this Jag that was linked above

There's something about those C63s that doesn't gel with me. I think it's because they're usually bought to make noise and do burnouts which puts me off.

The Alfa's depreciate at a similar rate to the Jag's but the well spec'd ones just seem to command a bit more money, get in one, then jump in the Jag & I've found most go for the Jag as it's the nicer place to be. Then there's the 3.0 engine which is just a better unit.

The Alfa does look better though & you will get a newer car.

That XF looks like a good one but as always do your checks smile

The C63 certainly has a bit of a dodgy following from what I've seen.

Compare an XE to a Giulia Veloce and the XE looks to be a fair bit cheaper? Jags also have a whiff of old man about them too.

I've had a few on that list.

Giulia gets the nod for outright fun. The quick steering rack makes it feel very nimble.

XFR are getting a little old now but represent great value for money. Engine is tremendous.

XEs is lovely, if a little cramped compared to the others.

435i/440i gran coupe not as fun as the others but a great all rounder. Hatchback boot is very useful.
