Anyone requested a refund on a broken car.
Discussion
A used vehicle I purchased about 2 months ago has broken down and needs a new engine. Although the warranty covers it the warranty company wants me to pay £1300 to the engine stripped down for diagnosis. Also, there is a long queue of vehicles in front of mine that are also waiting for new engines. So the whole process will likely take months. I think the best course of action is to request a refund from the selling dealership and let them handle the vehicle. Any tips or advice before I contact the dealership would be appreciated.
Contact Citizens advice, it's a free service for consumers.
They'll give you a reference number, and your options.
It can be quite useful to quote the Citizens Advice ref number in emails with the dealer as it let's dealer know you've taken advice, and CA are monitering.
Has the dealer given you a replacement car?
Did the car go back to the dealer for any issues in the first 30 days of your ownership for any issue that could have been related to the failing engine?
This £1300 the warranty company want. I'd not be paying that.
Tell the dealer to pay it, and drop into conversation/email that you've owned the car for less than 6 months.
Please let us know what CA advise.
