Hi all,

I might have buggered things up for myself on the car insurance comparison sites.

I've made multiple quotes this week (editing to change reg) to see what cars are reasonable or not. Sometimes. multiple versions of the same car just for lols. However, all of a sudden it seems that a major provider (senior navy rank) won't even provide quotes anymore. The cheapest quotes have become a lot more expensive.

Have I been blacklisted?

I wasn't trying to be fraudulent as my details stayed the same, just the car was changed but maybe it flagged up as unusual behavior.

I'm not looking to buy the car for a couple of months anyway so my question would be is this a temporary thing or am I permanently on the naughty step with these folks now? Can it be resolved?

Yes, naughty step. They don’t like you gaming the system to try to find the cheapest combination of (truthful) criteria. Give it a few more weeks, your previous quotes should stay valid?

Yeah, I still have the original quotes. Hopefully, closer to the time I might call them and see what they can do!

I was hoping I've hit a limit for the month and it will calm down again but that is probably wishful thinking...computer says no banghead

Live and learn. Wont be doing that again

I've found that renewal prices change the closer to renewal you are and quotes drop off or change prices. The optimal price point seems to be around 3 weeks before renewal.

if playing around on it i use another nearby house number and made up name with a similar birthday to me , ought to be near enough pricewise then if blacklisted crack on with another made up name and only put your own in when ready to pay

Ah - senior navy rank - I may know who you're talking about. Give them a ring and tell them the price you'd seen and they should be able to sort that without too much fuss. The 'back office' uses algorithms- but the team in Swansea (if the rank applies) can usually override that.

Yes, I'm hoping that talking to a human, rather than an algorithm will sort me out!

Good shout on using dummy details. I might do that next time or not use the site as a weekday evening entertainment hehe

Re-visit the site using an Incognito window which doesn't track your cookies, it won't know who you are then.

I usually use the Incognito window as a first port of call when I start searching, it can make a vast difference if you're going to market as a complete unknown - i.e. a potentially new customer.

Always this. John Smith next door must get a lot of spam mail, and god help anyone who has my old mobile number from 2006.
