I love my R56 mini but my kids are out growing it.
So I need to consider my options, looking for advice and recommendations please'
Must be a 5 door
Must be a 5 seater
Must be £5k or less
Must be petrol
Ideally something Golf size ISH, reasonably reliable and atleast semi interesting.
I like the idea of a Golf GTI or an Octavia vRS but concerned that my budget might not stretch to one which isn't rusty
I like Mercedes a class but don't know much about them.
Not a fan of Vauxhall's
I'm old enough for insurance not to be a major factor but tight enough to not want a fuel buzzer .. my 18 mpg experience with a legacy turbo has shown me that
So, awesome people of pistoheads... What should I be considering ?

Volkswagen Golf Mk5 GT(2004-2009): Offers a good mix of performance and practicality.
Skoda Octavia Mk2 vRS (2005-2013): Shares the Golf GTI's engine, making it a high-performance choice with more space.
Ford Focus Mk2 ST (2005-2011): Known for its excellent handling and distinctive engine, a great performance bargain.
Honda Civic Type S (2007-2010): Not as high performance as the Type R, but still sporty and reliable.
Toyota Auris SR180 (2007-2009): Offers good performance and reliability, with better fuel economy.
Mazda 3 MPS (2007-2009): The highest performance option here with its powerful turbocharged engine.
Mercedes-Benz A200 Turbo (2005-2012): A premium choice with decent performance, though finding a good one may require careful searching.

5 series 525i? (that's all the 5s I can find in one car)

Paddy, I don't think the Civic Type S came as a 5 door, although I do really like them.Skoda Octavia Mk2 vRS (2005-2013): Shares the Golf GTI's engine, making it a high-performance choice with more space.

Personally from that list I'd be headed for an Octavia VRS as a bit bigger than the Golf but the same mechanically and also less prone to rusty front wings... can also buy a younger car than a Golf
Apologies in advance but here is a 2005 Mk5 Golf Gti for £5k with 5 doors!
