Hi all, looking at replacing my car with a Velar… budget is £40k (don’t really want to pay more than this).

Pre-facelift interior appears nicer to me – there’s buttons for the temperature controls & I’m not a huge fan of the facelift screen / Telsa looking centre console. Does anybody have experience of them both?

From my brief research, P250 R-Dynamic HSE seems to be the ideal spec… however, it appears that so many different options were available that they all seem different. Are there any must have options?

Also is the P250 engine reliable? I’ve heard the stories but don’t know if it’s related to a particular engine.

Any feedback / advice / help is welcome.

Just make sure you avoid the 2.0D Ingenium (Ingeniboom!) engine, as they're the ones that have no end of trouble, not only in the Velar but also in the Evoque, Discovery Sport, F Pace etc

We test test drove a Velar a few months ago when my wife wanted to change her car.

It felt surprisingly dark and cramped in the interior, the rising swage line causing this I think. We sat in a pre facelift car and much preferred the post facelift.

We then tested a Discovery Sport which my wife loved, in fact it was hard to see where the extra £10k/£15k or so went in the Velar.

Interestingly one of the Velars we sat in had trouble with its pop out door handles which had jammed open, not a great selling point for a nearly new car.

We bought the Disco and it has been faultless.

I don't think there is any engine you should get is there?
I am sure the 2L petrol has issues too as well as the 3L Diesel !

The old 3L V6 diesel had reports of snapped cranks.

The inline 6 (both fuels) seem to not have any horror stories so far.

I had a 2.0D Velar from new for 4 years and did 60k miles in that time. Never had any issues with the engine but the infotainment was glitchy. It would sometimes go pixelated and switch off, fail to connect to phones etc. On occasion, it would just not come on at all. In the end, it was all replaced under warranty but it still had problems.

I had an issue with the transfer box and a terrible whining sound at the 4 year point and I knew it was time to move it on.
