Good morning

We are looking for a new car of a decent size, our childs pushchair now wont fit in the boot of one of the cars now that hes in a stroller seat. It'll be mostly used by my Mrs for general running around with pram in the boot, but I will be taking it to work once a week at least, 60 miles each way. Also, something capable of a UK or French holiday with dog in the boot - roofbox may be needed for this but that's fine.

Our budget is around £6k, needs to be diesel ideally as these sort of cars usually suit it better and cheap running costs, reliable as much as an older car can be.

My Mrs wants an SUV type thing not an estate, fair enough, I get that estates are a bit longer sometimes, and our driveway is a bit awkward, plus the better visibility an SUV offers.

So far we have browsed Hyundai IX35, Ford Kuga, Honda CRV, and Kia Sportage, plus some other equally dull washing machines.

The Kia seems to tick slightly more boxes as with the 3 spec and above you appear to get glass roof, leather, nicer interior than the Hyundai etc.

I've read good things about the chain driven 1.7crdi engine, wouldn't be opposed to a 2.0 but for the sake of keeping running costs down we don't need 2.0, auto or 4wd.

Does anyone have any words of advice about these at all? Are the clutches and DMF a weak point/expensive? Does the glass roof tend to leak?

Any other decent suggestions welcomed but I can't find too much at this price point that ticks all the boxes while still being cheap and looking relatively modern.

Cheers
