karoq vs Ateca

I've owned a Karoq 1.5 SEL DSG petrol since Nov 21, had a Hyundai Tucson 1.6 petrol manual before and the Karoq is miles better and I find it very comfortable to live with. Waiting for an investment to pay me back and hopefully will be buying a 2025 model when the time comes. Other considerations were a Tiguan and Kia but went with the Skoda as I got on with the dealer better than the other two. Didn't consider the Seat at the time as no dealers close by.
My wife has the 1.4 TSI Ateca and loves it. It'll regularly return mid 40 mpg on a run.
It performs better than the 1.4 150 bhp would have you believe, not fast by any metric but will easily keep up with traffic. Hers also has the COD system that shuts two cylinders down to aid economy.
We've had no problems at all with it although hers is a 2018 car, the later ones have infotainment issues apparently.
I've had a quick look round a Karoq and found it a bit better than the Ateca, the seats especially in the Skoda were more versatile as the rear ones could be removed, don't even think this is an option on the Seat..
I use a specialist for servicing.

TY for the above. I have been reading up on comparison between the 2...Obvs they are VAG etc and are built in the same factory, (so I found out yesterday)....From what I have read, the Karoq has a slightly softer suspension/ride, the Ateca slightly firmer and some say a bit more "sporty"....
We’ve got both! Daughter has 2018 Ateca SEL 1.0 manual, wife has Karoq SEL 1.5 DSG.
To be honest, they’re both pretty unremarkable, which is probably a good thing from my POV.
We haven’t had a great time with SEAT dealer, a multi franchise place and they just seem a bit dim. We don’t have another one within reasonable reach. The car is on VW Group’s All In package so it has to go to dealer. Had it from new and it’s done about 85K now, mostly a 65 mile daily commute.
Karoq is 22 and only done 8K. Had a couple of issues with it, and it has a still unresolved suspension knock. Dealer is handy, and lovely to deal with but they’re madly busy so it’s always a long wait to get in.
On the Karoq removable seats, not many versions have them and I think they’re an option on all versions now. Ours has them, they weigh a ton. You get a retractable net load cover with them and people prefer the solid one.
The early 1.5 manuals had an issue with hesitation- took a while for VW to sort it. Apparently the DSGs either don’t do it, or it’s masked by the gearbox.

We deffo want a dsg, have had many autos over the years and some peoples infatuation with a manual is laughable at times.
The car will be used for local mileage, 10 here, 20 there and the occasionally 30 somewhere. Need a decent boot for boxes n stuff. Have got a sports car for the silly stuff, but when we get a car we like, we keep it for 10 years...so want to get it right.
Thought about the 1 litre dsg but its quite hilly where we live and will be towing a 250+kg trailer 3/4 times a week over 25 miles at a time, so maybe the 1.4/1.5 with that extra oomph , would be better........
We deffo want a dsg, have had many autos over the years and some peoples infatuation with a manual is laughable at times.

The 1 litre is better than it ought to be for the size of car, but based on what you said then definitely go for the 1.5. I don't know if the 1 litre comes with a DSG in these cars (I know it does in other models).
Our 1.5 will spin its front tyres out of junctions if it's wet and you apply ANY sort of urgency - I'd guess that might be a bit worse with a trailer? There's not a lot left in the fronts at 8K miles, and it's mainly used by wife to go to the shops. I'll put CrossClimates on it, apparently they help a lot, and our Ateca has just had its second set of those fitted so they last well.

I would suggest you check the boot size carefully on both to ensure it's going to be suitable for your needs. I have a Karoq & the boot area is considerably less than that in my old Mk 2 Mondeo & even with the seats folded forward there isn't much more area. The space is rather taller, but but that doesn't always work depending on what you are carrying. The "clever" rear seats aren't a great help as while they can be rolled forward you won't want to be going the next step of removing them too often as they are very heavy. The parcel shelf cover is rubbish & there's a gap in it so in reality the loadspace is open to the cabin.We deffo want a dsg, have had many autos over the years and some peoples infatuation with a manual is laughable at times.

The ride on 19" rims is poor so I'd suggest 17" at most, but that's true of many vehicles.
The 1.5TSi engine is good once you have the turbo going but it has rubbish low end performance - hitting a motorway incline at 70 I often need to change down from 6th to 5th (mine is a manual).
By no means the final 2. I thought I would put these 2 up for a comparison....bit of a lie as we like them both.

Interesting contrast with the cars. 2021 with 55k on the clock at £15.7 and the Ateca quite a bit older, 4 years in fact, twice that of the Skoda but not far in mileage and "only" £2.5k cheaper. Decent spec for both, not the base model but 2 up. Neither has cruise! Bit weird we thought for that level of car BUT as we wont be doing much motorway/DC driving doesnt make much diff really.
So.....Which one and WHY!
The problem with both these cars is the lower specs.....We are looking for SE L & SE Tech......major bummer

Just asked the Exeter dealer to confirm what the style of infotainment the car has ...as the fleabay/AT advert says, the "Seat media system plus pack".
NOW matey at Hendy of Exeter says that those ads are just generic ones and are NOT 100% accurate!!!!

Ive had a Skoda Kaorq SEL, was great at family duties.
Where possible, Id get the SEL spec
It comes with heated leather/half leather seats
Bright LED headlights (formerly xenon)
Reverse camera
and the removable rear seats (making it a handy small van on rare occasion its needed)
I think it also came with keyless entry and go as standard
Thats as standard on that spec level.
Wasnt important when I was car hunting, but once I got those toys, I now wouldnt be without them

I'm on to my 2nd one of these and would agree with this. The removal car seat went from "oh that's cool, only use that a few times" to a must have. My current one is a few months old and incredibly quiet on the road - so much more so than the 2020 model I had previously. Where possible, Id get the SEL spec

Obviously do your own checks but on the Skoda you can see the cruise control lever below the steering wheel on the left. Can't see anything on the SEAT - our 2018 SEL has it as part of the indicator stalk - but I'd be amazed if at least basic cruise isn't standard (although we got one of the last mk1 Tiguans and that didn't have cruise even though the sales guy insisted it did. ETA: You can just see the "cancel" label for cruise on the SEAT's indicator stalk.
Did a 50 mile run in our Ateca (1 litre manual) today, mostly of fast A roads, and it drove very well, especialy with 85K on it. I did think it was a bit flat going up a long uphill slip road on to a dual carriageway. Then I realised it was in 5th, not 3rd! (I usually drive an auto).

Going to Murray Skoda, Plympton tomorrow for a drive in a 1.5dsg out and around and back to Plymouth where the Seat dealer is to place the cars together and get a real comparison, then take the Ateca for a spin.
Was then going up to Exeter to see the Ateca there but after the BS.....will pass. (The salesman still span me BS when I asked what packages the car came with if they just put up a generic advert on fleabay, all he replied with was a 10 item list with what the car had)........My forehead now hurts and I've a dent in my wall.
