Looking around to replace the Ibiza.
As I drive a Van for 30k miles annually, I like the higher driving position, Id also like to be to chuck 2.4m lengthts of 4x2 etc into it without any hassle.
Im not sure the car I want is actually available tbh.
Would prefer something not very mumsy, but I guess thats not to happen.
Ibiza plus points :
Small
£30 PA Tax
55 ish mpg
Car play
Bad points
Awful bouncy ride
Small interior space
What Id really like is a Defender that matchd the Ibiza for economy, but I know that not going to happen. All the good 3 door type small 4x4 have become overwight and huge.
Looking at stuff like:
Stonic
Kona
CHR ?
Yeti - like these but faitly old tech and not great mpg

It’s a relative term I guess.
What would you recommend? Your choices are always interesting and mostly accurate
How many miles will you actually be doing in this car? What would you recommend? Your choices are always interesting and mostly accurate
How much do you want to spend?
What will it be used for?
General car stuff
No kids but do diy and clay shooting, so would like a decent private boot space
12k ish ?

You're doing enough miles for a diesel to make sense at which point I'd look at these.

Thank you, but they are all way too big for my requirements, and also I have a risk aversion to mileage….
The Ibiza is perfect in terms of running costs and tech, it’s just a tad short of interior space, and it rides poorly.
It’s a 17 plate with 62k, I suspect the may have to keep and accept it as a full bit economical daily.
I have the Caterham for proper driving.

It’s been considered, but I’m not convinced they aren’t old tech in a slightly shiny suit ?https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/dacia/duster/363411/...

The looks aren’t mega, but it would fit the role..
I may have to look deeper….

VW T-Roc?
I think 2.4m lengths of anything will be a challenge in anything fairly small. Skoda Fabia estate might be worth a look?
Otherwise, maybe a Golf or Corolla/Auris estate?
Or you could go the whole hog and get a van with windows like a Berlingo or similar!
Actually, currently looking at Dacia Sandero Stepway...I think 2.4m lengths of anything will be a challenge in anything fairly small. Skoda Fabia estate might be worth a look?

Looked at a T-cross and the boot was no bigger than the Ibiza....
The 2.4 thing is just to demonstrate flexibilty of use. If anything, the Ibiza ia almost to nice to abuse.
Id force anything into my old Celica

T-Cross is based on the Polo platform, so it makes sense that the boot would be similar - the T-Roc is based on the Golf, so should be a bit bigger - between the T-Cross and Tiguan.
Couple of things spring to mind.
If the main things you dislike about your Ibiza are a lack of space and a bouncy ride then going for a supermini based SUV probably won't improve things. They also seem to be very popular so don't always represent great value for money. You could really do with the next size up surely?
ZX often tends to suggest big cars and the ones you said are too big were all full sized SUVs. I'd be looking at something in between those and the supermini based ones.
A budget of £12k doesn't stretch too far these days if you're wanting up to date technology. You may need to compromise somewhere.
How about something like the Kadjar?

I've never been in one. But French cars are often said to have a more supple ride and they often depreciate quicker from new so you get more used car for your money.

I'd second this having had one for 3 years. Most useful car I've ever owned.I was tasked to buy a car for a friend last week. SUV, room for adults in the back, economical and to carry a big dog too.
I ended up getting a Renault Kadjar. Medium size SUV but pretty big inside, ride is comfy, nice looking thing. I wouldn't mind one myself
I only 'owned' it from picking it up from the dealer to handing it over 8 miles later and wanted to keep the keys.
