Audi A5 lease query
Discussion
I have an Audi A5 on lease, got it in November so just over 8 months, done around 1600 miles since.
There seems to be a whining noise from the brakes randomly when pressed, sounds like a squeal.. with the mileage and how new it is, it can’t be the brakes are wearing out.
Any advice or whether I should call the Audi Contract hire Helpline and see what they can do?
Has it happened to anyone before? I don’t have the maintenance & servicing package. Just the standard warranty that comes with a new car

You haven't used it very much - have you tried doing a few hard applications of the brakes? Make sure no-one is behind you and try and avoid coming to a complete stop.
I haven’t no, I can try that. It happens when I press the brakes lightly, if I go heavy, it doesn’t make the noise. On my previous older cars it’s always when the brakes are wearing out, but like you said, I’ve hardly used it for it to be brake wear.

It’s 8 months old just book it in to an Audi dealer under warranty.
I was thinking of doing this, but was told because I don’t have maintenance on my lease contract, they would charge £140 if it turns out to be brakes that need cleaning etc, and it wouldn’t be covered under warranty. Is that correct or should I ask for it to covered as part of warranty?

It's not impossible that something (pad / caliper etc) could be stuck and wear out, but unlikely at 1600 miles. And you'd hear it worse under heavy braking. On my previous older cars it’s always when the brakes are wearing out, but like you said, I’ve hardly used it for it to be brake wear.
It's a leased car and you don't use it much. Turn the radio up and don't worry about it.

Could possibly be a warranty but as brakes will come under wear n tear,no doubt they will try n go down that route, what's £140 ? Can't see anything being that cheap at Audi?
This was for the initial check on the car if it did turn out to be brakes , which would go under wear and tear. Then it’s be a separate charge to clean brakes if I went down that routeSheepshanks said:

This was what I was thinking of doing, but it’s my first lease so not sure what they check when you return the lease. Do they check the brakes etc and charge if they’re worn out? It's a leased car and you don't use it much. Turn the radio up and don't worry about it.
