I've just agreed to buy a fairly high value car private via ebay.

Just doing all the usual checks and have currently just got a HPI (well the rac equivalent)

It has come up with a mileage discrepancy and looking at the records the mileage does jump around a bit between 4000 - 6000 miles about 15 years ago when the car was 3 years old.

Has anyone had this before? It looks like some of the mileage is recorded by DVLA, but some is by VMC and some by RM MIL'GE? Any idea who this is?

Thanks for the help.

If I am reading this correctly it's 18 years old and the descrepancy was 15 years ago. I really would not worry. I have an old jag with exactly what you described. I think it is history that does not matter.

I had this when I was buying a TT the other month. It turned out that the trip mileage hadn’t been reset since it was nearly new, and the trip display appears right next to the odometer display so someone had keyed the wrong mileage in during a service or MOT or something. That mileage was about 1500 lower than the odometer reading.
Very easy for these mistakes to be made
