Hi all,

I'm looking for a new daily that is something that makes me want to drive. I miss the feeling I got starting my 335i/xfr and enjoy some sense of occasion.

My usage is varied, some weeks I can do over 1000 miles with mainly motorway/a-road use. Other weeks I'll do less than 50 miles with all local town use. Total is around 15k/year.

Requirements are fairly simple:
- 4/5 seats
- 4/5 doors
- I do all maintenance repairs/myself so this is a consideration (I maintain dealer SH however for oil services for resale)
- Decent seats
- over 4 cylinder
- Great steering

Shortlist I've come up with is:
- G30 540i
- Quattroporte vi
- Giulio Quadrifoglio
- g20 m340i
- F10 M5
- F30 m3
- Panamera (not sold on the looks).

Overall, I'm mainly between the QP & G30 but haven't test driven anything yet - the lack of aftermarket support is concerning me a bit on the QP.

Budget is £30k but I'd be happier nearer £20k! Suggestions/thoughts appreciated!

Ghibli over QP?

Mechanically identical, and in itself a full 5M, the QP is quite a bit longer than a parking space, Ghibli overhangs slightly.

Maintenance is really simple on these, easy access and they have dipsticks. Pollen filter takes 30 seconds, oil filter comes out the top, air filters, spark plugs all dead easy.

Spares are £££££ though.

Thanks for the replies!

V60 polestar wasn't even on my radar - looks great but incredibly rare!

F10 M5 is a real contender but I've read that the steering isn't great which I find surprising as I understand its a hydraulic rack. Such a shame there was never a wagon made! How does it compare to the g30 540i as appear to be similar money now?

Rapide is a bit too brave!

I've never been mad about the Ghibli I'm afraid!

Great steering feel coupled with excellent turn in is something I value highly in a car. I've typically driven saloons or estates but are there any hot hatches worth considering?

For the engine and steering, for me, I would have a hard time looking past the the Giulia Guadrifoglio,

Certainly if I was in a position to buy one, I would.

I did have a 971 gen Panamera once, it was the e hybrid, so quote a heavy lump, I always found it too big to enjoy on our roads though,

Nothing wrong with the steering for a big car. Tyre dependant for turn in. The F10 will feel much different to the G30, for instance, the seats are excellent but the traction is terrible. The 540 is just a cooking model at the end of the day.

Agree with this. Would be top end of budget though and you'd be nudging 100k miles after a couple of years of use which will likely tank the value.
